Best time to tell new boss?

edited January 2011 in Pregnant
I was recently hired to a new job, first day is next week. I found out I was pregnant after I was hired and went through orientation. When is the best time to break the news to my new bosses? What is the best way to tell them too? Help please!

  • Im in the same position as you. Im 11 weeks pregnant and start my new job monday! Im not quite sure what to,do in this situation. Help me too!
  • I start Wednesday. I was thinking I would wait until my first dr appointment and tell them after that. Luckily I work as a contracted photographer for newborn babies in the local hospitals so I think they will be lenient. They can't fire you for being pregnant! You have probably had your first appointment right? I would wait until the 2nd week into work and then tell them. Say you didnt know when you were hired. Any ideas yourself?
  • I would wait until either there was something from the pregnancy hindering you from doing your work or til you start showing. Legally you don't have to tell them at all, and legally they can't fire you for being pregnant but they can and say it was for a different reason, it happened to me. My attorney said it was my word against theirs because I had no proof. So good luck and be cautious...
  • I would give it a few weeks, but ya if you are having strong symptoms, or start showing I would let them know. Let them get to know you as an employee first a bit if you can. About the 14 week mark is always a good time. You can tell them you didn't know at first then wanted to get past that first trimester when your risks drop dramatically. Legaly they can't do anything. You being preg should not change anything
