I was wandering what the difference is between non-hormonal iud & a hormonal iud. (i might just be stupid but I have NO idea) I've only used pills & nuva ring. Thanks ladies!
An iud scratches the lining of the uterus to prevent implantation. Makes fir an irritated environment however babies can still be born with them attached or ectopic pregnancies occur. That's what I know about the non hormonal
It is a hormone that is mostly in men, women have estrigen, I know I didnt spell either of them right. I know that if you breastfeed they don't want you to have estrigen, cause it passes to baby and can decrease milk.
@ammasmama oh, I'm going to bottle feed in case something happens like it did with my first. I was thinking about getting Mirena but don't quite understand the difference in hormonal & non-hormonal is there really a difference?
The non hormonal is the old style copper iud, you can have it in for up to 10 years. The hormonal one is Mirena it is plastic and you can have it in for up to 5 years. Again the hormone used is progeterone.
Talk to your dr, there are so many different kinds of birth control now, and if your not nursing you can use any of them. My problem is I nurse for at least a year, so I don't have much to pick from!
@ammasmama cool thanks for your help my husband & I originally decided on getting my tubes cut/burned but when I decided I was actually up for it he decided that he might want more kids.. I think 3 is enough, but I am willing to wait.
@momofthree I have no clue what method we are going to use. He doesn't want to get fixed, and I can't be expected to take care of 3 babies after surgery. I was thinking of the new springs that they put in your tubes and in 3 months they scar and its the same effect as getting them tired, but now I'm debating if I want something that permanent. So now my only options are, merina whish is still long term for me, condoms which I don't think he'd use everytime, or the pill I just got pregnant on! I can't take the shot, had a bad reaction to it 14 yrs ago, and would love nuvaring again, but can't cause I'll be nursing. So its stil undecided!
@ammasmama I'm thinking about Mirena or the 10 yr one, I've tried the pill I 4get to take it, then I had nuva ring for about 3 months got pregnant the next week...I want to try something I don't have to remember to take or change every day or month I an extremely forgetful!
@ammasmama yeah, I had a car wreck a few years ago I have some memory loss so if I don't write down if I took it or not I am liable to take it again, I get on my husbands nerves sometimes so BAD....LOL....
@ammasmama I had him may 2 I haven't gone to see him yet they had to reschedule he was on vacation I go next week. I'm hoping to get Mirena as well but insurance might not pay for it.
I have a high hormone level and the pill gives me 24/7 pms. Not the cramping or anything just the bad mood. Do you think an iud would be a good idea? The ring also had too high level of hormones
@babynumber02 possibly there are 2 different kinds I believe one with hormones & one without. I had the ring for 3 months took it out for 2 days....& now I have a little boy.
My hormones are crazy already I don't need to add to it With birth control. Being pregnant I have to keep my mood in check. But I do want more children. Just not right away. Two days without the ring? I'm sorry that happened but I'm sure you absolutely cherish ur baby boy
@momofthree congratulations on your baby boy. As far as I know my insurance paid for mine, at least they didn't tell me if they didn't! So far I have had some spotting and cramping. Its not to bad though.
@babynumber02 defiantly I wouldn't trade him for anything we were going to wait to have another but God had different plans, I would ask your Dr about the lower hormone one.
@ammasmama cool I hope mine does...three kids are plenty for me! Thanks!
I wouldn't recommended iud either. My bff got prego when her son was 3 months old cuz her iud came out. Depends on if you're nursing whether u have BC with or without hormones. If your nursing u want non hormonal BC. Micronore is a good one to use while breastfeeding.;)
I used Depo after my first, I didn't like going in every three months to get the shot though. It took an entire year for me to conceive my second baby after I stopped using it. I used Mirena while breastfeeding my second baby. It did fall out, because it never implanted. That was 2 and half years later. My sister got pregnant with the copper IUD, they took it out and her baby is fine, she's 2 now. I plan on using Mirena after this baby as well. Nothing to remember everyday, plus no period.
