Do you not get maternity pay in America? In England we get 9 months off with full pay and can have another 3 months off if we want but with 70% of your usual wage
In the UK it depends where you work though, although everyone can get a year off. My workplace doesn't pay maternity so I had statutory maternity pay which is 90% full pay for 6 weeks then about £110 a week for 7 and half months then you can take another 3 months unpaid but your job remains open for you. I feel sorry for you guys in US x
With my last job I got 6weeks full pay and then they had bonding time where you can stay out with out pay... I did that for a month and then I went back to work.
i know if i were to be blessed and have a baby, that i wouldnt get any pay unless i had the time saved up.. and i was working for the biggest hospitals in CNY.. the only one in our area that delivers babys..
@Maggie FMLA is not a bad thing. Its job protection. With out it your employer could inact their days off policy ie 3 days no call in automatically terminated. It does suck that its unpaid but you will have a job to come back to. Maybe work something out with your boss. I know I will have 5 weeks sick time saved up and will work from home for 3 weeks or so.
@iamom oh i know its a protection for me! Im thankful for that. It just stinks that its entirely unpaid. Im a teacher. Im going to be working at home to get ahead for next year anyhow. I teach college nursing students. I get pre-scheduled vacation and can't just save it up... we can only use it between the semesters. That's the part that sucks. I am missing my using my vacation time because you cannot use it while on FMLA. It also doesn't carry over... so i just straight lose it.
