Underbelly- vs. panel-waist pants

edited May 2011 in Pregnant
Ladies,
Are there any real pros to either underbelly- or panel-waist maternity pants, or is it just a personal preference? Can you wear the underbelly pants throughout the entire pregnancy?

Right now, I think I prefer the underbelly ones bc they fit better--the panel ones keep slipping down and I have to fold them over bc it's so hot! Which do you prefer and why?

  • I like under the bump more comfortable also i have some belly belts so i can still wear my normal jeans :)
  • @SamiUK, yeah, I have some belly belts, too, but I discovered that with certain pants, if I wear low rise panties and sit for a long time, the zipper starts to dig into my skin! And I'm not very big! Just a warning! :)
  • I wore low rise reg jeans my whole last pregnancy, so I like the underbelly ones. And I think for summer, the less fabric the better! But I bought one of those bella bands the other day, because my pants were falling off, and I like how the panel rounds me out so it looks more like baby and less like fat, lol!
  • I prefer under the belly. I haven't bought any maternity clothes yet but I hate pants on my stomach
  • when I first needed maternity clothes the panel waist was nice...but now that I got a nice big bump I feel like it restricts me and I prefer the underbelly.

  • I've worn both, I like under belly in the beginning, panel in the middle to mid 3rd trimester, and dresses at the end!! I like things loose cause my babies kick the waistbands of both!!
  • I hate the underbelly ones because I have no hips and I am constantly pulling my pants/shorts up. I am not crazy about some of the full belly panels that some stores have like Old Navy. They are a thick stretchy material but it cuts off right in the middle of the belly which is constricting. Motherhood Maternity has some great full panel bottoms (jeans, pants, shorts and skirts). They are called the Secret Fit Belly. I am wearing some bermuda shorts right now and they are super comfy. The actual shorts stop below my belly and then there is a thin, light panel that is super stretchy that will last the entire pregnancy. I guess it depends on where you buy them from but i would recommend trying them on before you buy so you dont end up with something that you find uncomfortable later.
  • Target has a nice full panel yoga pant style that I tried on today. I didn't wanna put my regular clothes back on. I haven't tried and under belly panels. Panel-less maternity pants and shorts are comfy.
  • I love the Motherhood Maternity secret fit pants they are my fave.
  • Just wanted to add the motherhood is having a big sale this weekend. All of their bottoms are buy 2 get 1 free. There are lots of other specials right now too!
  • I don't like the underbelly ones. They are unforgettable for me. The secret fit belly panels are wonderful!
  • In my past pregnancies I couldn't wear my underbelly pants in the last few months. I loved my full panel pants, but with the ones I got now from Old Navy I have noticed the panel is not high enough which makes them slightly uncomfortable. I have a pair of folding panel yoga pants and they are the most comfy.
  • I love my under belly jeans but right now it cuts right across my belly.. but the panel ones ate hot and itchy.. lol but I like the under belly one better
  • I can't afford Motherhood Maternity, so I'm wearing yoga pants from Old Navy that have a waist band that folds down or up to either cover up my belly or let it breathe. The pants are so comfy and they look awesome :) I also found a pair of my old fat pants that fit nicely now. They're super low rise jeans that perfectly go under my bump. When I get bigger, I'm going to buy some dresses.
  • I keep looking at maxi dresses, and have found NONE I like. Full patterns tend to not set on me well and I need straps and boob coverage. I can't go braless, lol.
  • Right now, the panel ones are slipping off of me, lol. Think I may go to Motherhood for their sale and try both on.
