Something on the baby's brain?

edited April 2011 in Health
I just had my 19 week ultrasound to check every aspect of the baby and the technician found a cyst on the baby's brain. My doctor said it was nothing and she see's it on a lot babies but in rare cases the cyst has been known to cause chromosonal disorders (downs, spinabifida, mental retardation, etc). She said that her spine was perfect and everything else on the baby was by the book. She also said that since my 14 week pre-screen came back clear that I shouldnt be worried and that the cyst will most likely go away. I am still a little worried though. I did get blood work drawn to check and see if the baby has any problems. I know everything is okay but I am still a little worried. Has anyone seen this or heard of this?

  • I have heard of them coming and going, but am no expert. My friend had similar experience @20 week check and it sent away like Dr said it would. Try to stay calm! :)
  • My baby had a tumor on his lung and it has almost went away after ten weeks. I was referred to a perinatologist you should have your doc do the same. They are the experts.
  • Both of my kids had them. They were called choroid plexis cysts...I know I botched that spelling! When my 2nd had them they recommended the amnio. Came back perfect. Without any other markers I am sure all is well. My Dr had me do another u/s at 32 weeks and they were gone (thats usually when they disappear). I'm sure all is fine hun! :)
  • @due71011 I am happy to hear everything is clearing up on your babies lungs:)

@jellybelly1015 and @live4my2 awe that's great news and is exactly what the doctor said would happen. That is what im hoping happens. I am scheduled for another ultrasound in 5 weeks to check the babys heart and face because she didn't want us to see those during the first ultrasound. I just want it to go away. Its crazy how attached and worried I already am about my baby :) I love the feeling of knowing im going to me a mom (this is my first)

  • It's ok, its my first baby too, so I understand the worry! It doesn't go away :)
  • When i was pregnant with my now 3 year old the u/s tech saw the same thing. They sent me to a specialist. The specialist came in and did the ultrasound and couldn't see anything at all.
  • well, my dr was right thank goodness. :) i just had another ultrasound done and the spots on her brain are gone. she is perfect. i am so thankful to have a healthy baby girl <3
