edited July 2011 in Health
I have a question my homegurl is due on monday but she still smokes weed. Is it true they drug test the babys pop when the baby is born? I kept telling her to stop but she didnt so im concern they might take her baby away.

  • Yeah they do but I'm sure after they will talk with her i can go good or bad i kno ppl who went thru this...good luck tew her
  • Yeah most do. They also test the placenta.
  • @JaydenzMommy I'm with the other girls, I am fairly sure they will test the baby. Even if she stopped now, but had been smoking the whole pregnancy...that baby will pop positive.

  • Ithink if they suspect something then they do. I have 2 children, and they have never been tested and neither have I. And I gave birth at 2 diff hospitals....
  • Oh and my sister smoked weed (not that I'm for it) the night before( and the whole preg) she was induced, ended up w a emergency csec and baby flew to another hospital in nicu, and she or he, never were tested.....
  • Usually they test without you even knowing..i guess the only way youd really kniw is if the results were bad.
  • not all countys do but most do.. why take the chance.. so lame.. sorry just my oppinion .. i myself have smoked pot.. for 10years on and off.. ugh.. but always off while prego.. tell her she needs to stop.. at least if she does the baby wont be stoned when its born.. ugh.. i know shes probably a brick wall.. no penatration..
  • I'm tellin ya, if you have certain circumstances or they suspect then they do. They do not test every baby and mom that gives birth...basicallly the sterotype test....if u fall into the catergories then they'll test. Bc like I said about my sister, and they never tested her, bc if they did, it wld have shwed weed in her system.
  • I've known 4 or 5 women who have smoked weed the whole time and they didn't drug test any of them. And 2 of them have had 2 babies. I was reading on here a few months ago about a lady who does the drug testing and she said they do it if the baby is acting like they are withdrawing and that doesn't happen with weed. She said in her 6 years she has never had a baby test positive for weed. They are actually doing research to see if THC passes through the placenta.
  • @sara102011 I think they test more for like crack and meth right? If they see the signs or suspect........

  • i know thats why i said .. different countys have different regulations.. weird huh.. i feel bad for the babies whos mommas do the hard stuff.. poor things..
  • I know here where I live right after all babies are born they take blood samples that is when they test all babies and if positive then they test mother for her levels. They do this without knowledge. They came in and told me everything was fine after they did it with my daughter. I then asked y and all babies? They said yes and it's procedure safety for the baby so all babies get tested. Exact words some drug absurers look like everyday joes
  • I'm not sure how it works in each state or hospital. When I had my daughter they tested both of us. But didnt tell us till they had already done so. We were clean of coarse. I've had a friend who was also tested but at a different hospital. The baby failed for small amounts of thc in the system. So dfs had to come in and take charge. She didnd lose her kid but was very close to. But she was involved with the system from then on. I have also known girls who have been fine smoking all tje way threw and not showing or getting tested.
  • Thank you gurls I hope her baby is born good & safe....
  • She should stop anyway.
  • I worked in a hospital in northern VA as a lab tech and drew bloodwork on all the mommies and babies. If a mother had a drug history or appeared to be under the influence of drugs while at the hospital we would drug test them without them knowing we would also test the baby within 10 mins after delivery. However if there is no drug history or apparent drug use we would not test mommy or baby. We always drew blood on both but with moms bloodwork we would do a basic chemistry panel to make sure she's not anemic and that her organs r working properly. Also we would do a type and screen match which tells us moms blood type and we would set aside blood for her until she left the hospital in case she needed a transfusion. As far as baby goes only bloodwork was done if baby was suspected of having jaundice or low cell counts. Then b4 baby goes home we would do a PKU which is sent to the state and it tests for chromosomal abnormalities. This way we could tell if certain diseases were from a specific population or area.
