feel like a bad mom already...

edited February 2011 in Pregnant
So I used to smoke about a pack a day. I'm 9 weeks now and I can't seem to break the nasty habit. I've cut down tremendously but still sneak a few in. It's even harder because my husband smokes. And I just feel horrible. Any words of encouragement?

  • There r other threads about smoking on here from awhile ago. Search for them. One in particular has over a hundred posts. Ur not alone. Hopefully that will help u.
  • Yes I do its gonna b ok I used to smoke also n every time my hunny smoked around me I wanted to smoke too so I sat done told him I needed to quit n now wen he smokes he jus makes sure he doesn't do it around me he also smokes like without a shirt so I dnt smell it n after a couple of weeks it jus got easier to the point where now he can smoke around me ( although the smells terribly) without me even tryin to smoke
  • I think you're doing great!! I don't smoke or drink but love my caffeine drinks!! Keep up on cutting it down. :)) Gradually you will get there!! Even if you can't cut it out completely, every bit helps a lot for baby and for you.
  • Im in the middle of stopping smoking now... 4 days and counting lol :-) where do you live? Here in the uk if you speak to your midwife she sets u up with an advisor who comes out to your home and gives advice ( and then a free perscription) for patches/gum.
Im now considering sticking my patches to my fella while he sleeps in places he cant reach to take them off as he wont give up lol :-)
youve done good to cut down. Keep at it and you will do great :-)

  • I quit @ 8 wks, it can be done,.just find new ways to relax& realize the first 2 wks are not going to be easy, but making the right choices for our children are not always easy. Its been 2 months now since I quit, easier now, but still occasionally get a craving. Smell is now a strong diversion & makes me want to throw up. I believe in you & If you need support or someone to hold you accountable I can help!
  • Thank you everyone!! You have given me great encouragement to quit quicker and that I am not going through this alone!!
  • I was lucky with my son and in this prenancy that the smell of cigarettes made me sick. That made it real easy to kick the habbit. Your doin awesome tho. Keep up the good work and it'll be no time before your over them.
  • I went from smoking everyday to once a wk and then after awhile I just lit them and let them burn on their own so that i still could smell them and after a lil while I was about to do without the smell, it was hard but it can be done
  • I quit when I found out I was prego with my first kid. It was hard, but worth it. I tried to smoke when I was about 3 months into my pregnancy and I got SO sick. I was actually in my sisters car on the highway and she had to pull over for me to puke...after that I knew I was done. It is very hard but best for you and mostly for that baby. Good luck!!
  • Smoking is bad
  • Ask your Hunny to quit with you. Let him know its for the baby to be healthy. Two is better then one. You can do it, you're a mommy now. Good luck
  • If you quit for even a day the smell will make you sick. I was exactly where you were. I would take a couple hits any time my fiance smoked one but he works days and I work nights so I couldn't smoke for days. Now the smell makes me sick
  • I am at the end of my third pregnancy and have smoked through all 3 pregnancies and all three are healthy
