Does anyone else live over an hour from the hospital?

edited September 2011 in Third Trimester
We actually live about 10 minutes from a wonderful hospital but it is in a different state and since I am on medicaid I have to drive over an hour to the hospital! Today was my 30 week appt and she said they would check me at 38 weeks and as long as everything looks good induce me at 39 weeks so that will lessen my odds of having to ride so long in labor but still it is away from my family and everything. I am already measuring a week big I don't know if 39 will be soon enough!

  • I live an hour away(* just about . *)
In the middle of the country.. so its an hour away either way.. ex the other way is a shit hospital!! They are horrible n refuse to do anything.
  • I live an hr from my hospital and this is baby #4 so this could be interesting since i am having regular bh as i keep getting closer to my dd. But bc i am measuring a wk ahead until wk 28 then it was 4 wks ahead they r talking of doing an amino around 34-35 wks and r talking the steriod shots and an earlier induction date.
  • I live over an hr from the hospital. We live in the middle of nowhere. Im not worried about it though, it'll be a planned c-section.
  • I live about 40 minutes away from the hospital. I waited until my contractions were 5 minutes apart (with my first child) before I called my sister (who lives right up the road) to come bring me to the hospital and we made it in plenty of time. I even had to get the antibiotic for the Strep B and had plenty of time for the antibiotic to kick in.

  • I live 45min to an hour away from my hospital. If this pregnancy goes anything like my last i wont have to worfy about rushing there lol but.im hoping my little guy will come on his own and ill have my hubby rush me there :)
  • Well i have the option of going to a hospital 5 mins away or 40 mins away.. but the one that is 40mins away is a military hospital, is more equipped for diff situations, and just a better environment so im going there unless its an absolute emergency.
  • The hospital I'm going to is an hour and 40 minutes away from me. I'm a little worried just cuz I've been having bh regularly and last Thursday I was dialated at 2 and 75%. I hope I don't have a freeway baby LoL.
  • I live about an hour and a half away from my hospital! Its annoying I hate having to call or go in just cuz when I call... they usually tell me to come in, and I cant stand the pointless drive there and back for nothing. Next time I go I damn well better be coming back with a baby!!
  • I just switched to a dr who is an hr+ away... it was by choice though. It will definitely be an interesting drive to the hospital when I'm actually in labor to say the least, lol. My poor husband.
  • I was told if you live a while from the hospital, go in when youre starting to go into labor because you don't want to be sitting in traffic during contractions.
  • we have a hospital here in town and it's max 10 minutes from where we live. but they dont take high risk, and esp not in my case. so i have to go to the hospital that is 1 hr away- that's giving no traffic and great weather. if i hit within an hr of "rush hr" (which is more like 1 1/2-2 hrs) and it is raining i am screwed.
  • Goodness! I am glad to know I'm not alone. Ours is wide open Southern Illinios interstae so it is as bumpy as backroads! Scheduled induction is the best 2 words to calm my nerves. Odds are not real good that there would be any real traffic.
