how often do you..

How often do you actually pack your pack 'n' play? My FIL got us one that's pretty heavy, and I'm worried about having to carry it around. But, then again, I don't really know how often I should be expecting to do it.. opinions?

  • My son is 15months old and ive never taken mine anywhere lol
  • I know for sure at thanksgiving and Christmas we will be bringing it along with us.. we both come from divorced families, so holidays are chaotic, lol. And I was planning on just sending that with her when she went to stay with grandparents and all..
@pnsw524 why haven't you taken it anywhere, if you don't mind me asking? Is it too hard to pack up or you just didn't need to bring it with you?
  • @lucyloo228 it is a pain to pack! Bit I've learned most hotels have cribs they will set up for you if you ask. Then it was easier to just get a cheap playpen for my parents house the to try & take the pack & play. Other then that we don't travel much!
  • @pnsw524 okay, thanks! We don't stay in hotels often, and we'd have to get four to keep at our parents houses, so that's why I need it to be easily portable. We'll try it out and see how it works out.
  • Pack n plays are wonderful. They're very useful... If you can get over it being heavy. And trust me, they're not as heavy as they used to be and not nearly as much as a pain in the butt. Work those muscles! :)
  • @eskarne_339 what brand to you have? I remember the old ones! They were big and square, and didn't fold up very small! So glad they reengineered!
  • @lucylu288 I have a larger size Pack'N'Play. It's a Baby Trend Nursery Center. I bought a larger Pack'N'Play because I know I will be taking it to her Grandmas a lot and her carpet is not something I want her playing on with all the dogs her Grandma has. I don't mind hauling it around.

My parents used an old Graco(sp?) one that completely came apart. Each piece was separate, even the boards in the bottom. It took like.. at least 15 minutes to set up. I'm so glad they finally got rid of it!
  • Not to mention it was very unsafe and would tip without extra support. We had to put books underneath it. I hated using it but they refused to buy another.
  • its funny how pack n plays are supoosed o be good for travel n stuff, but they are not very travel friendly at all! at least mine isn't. i have a disney edition something something elite from burlington... but its wayyy to heavy to lug up n down my stairs ( i live in an upstairs apartment ) and there actually is a lot of pieces. I've used mine a couple times for adriens naps, but its pretty much just decoration at this point. maybe if i could go back i would've saved that $100. but he's only 4 months old and not even crawling yet. hopefully when he's older and moving ill get some use out of it if we go on outings or when I'm cleaning the house.
  • I know I will be using mine. I have 2 Chihuahuas and a cat. Not like they're huge but they love nibbling on ears and licking noses. And my cat loves to be cuddled but really doesn't know when too much is enough. Depending on how they are around the baby.. I may end up using it a lot so I can do things around the house without everyone trying to reach for the golden boogers. And I know at least... if I don't use it a ton at home that I will for sure be using it when I go out. I move around a lot and spend a lot of my time at other peoples houses.

@adriens_mommy I'm sure you will get your use out of it. Specially when you're doing things around the house when thy get a little bigger. You can throw some toys in there and let them so wild if youre worried about having to keep all attention on them. Using them when you go outside is nice also. I saw some people using them while they were having a picknick and it gave me some great ideas.
  • Girl thats what a man is for. To hull all the heavy stuff. Car seat, pack and play, move the crib.. what else are they good for anyway lol. If your manless then i can understand or if he isnt around most of the time..
  • They have lighter ones that are more compact. We bought one (brand new) from a consignment shop for when my step son comes for the weekend. Its very easy to collapse and pack and not heavy or bulky at all.
  • I wouldn't worry about it being heavy or hard to pack because I would make bd deal with that.. hahahaha he's always carried anything that weighs more than a few pounds for me, not that I can't carry things he just insists on doing it
  • Lol I've never packed mines. I just had another one at the bfs family house

Here's a link.. They're pretty simple now collapse the arms pull up the middle and you're good to go. Unless you want all.the extras which makes them heavier...
  • @blendedfamilymom that's the kind I wanted, but my FIL picked out this Eddie Baurer one with lots of extras. I think we're gonna try it out and if it is super hard to pack up, then we'll go get the easy one.

All these other mama's are right about having Daddy carry it around tho! I just don't want it to take 20 minutes to set it up.
  • We pack ours up and take it every time we go to my inlaws and we go at least every other month to visit them. We stay ay their place and our daughter has her own room there but the baby sleeps in the room with us. when she was younger we brought it for her. I honestly don't know what we would have done without ours.
  • @lucyloo288 you shouldn't have a problem. When I set up my Baby Trend one for the first time... I didn't even read the instructions and it look me literally 2 mins to set up. It was just stand up, push down, clickx4 and lay the bottom in and you're done. Don't get discouraged. The more you use something.. the easier it gets. >:D<
  • @Carrie that's pretty much the situation I'm thinking we're going to be in, but times 4, for all of our parents, lol.

@eskarne_339 hubs set it up and packed it up today to see how it worked.. he said it was pretty simple and felt confident doing it. And I don't have to worry about it being too heavy for me, because the bag has a place for the wheels to poke thru so you can roll it! I think we're probably just going to keep this one, its working out just fine with it. Thanks for all of your advice and info, I really appreciate it!
  • Ours has the wheels also and its a lil bulky but very easy to set up take down and pack...
