breast feeding ?

If I stop breastfeeding in the middle of the night will my supply slowly go away or as long as I keep it up during the day will my body adjust?

  • My lo is 2 weeks old
  • Why are you going to stop at night? To ensure a good supply you should still be feeding on demand.
  • Well she just started actually breastfeeding two days ago so I've been pumping not actually bfing. So in the middle of the night my husband will get up to feed her and I get up to pump. I have enough extra to just feed her in the middle of the night so only one of us has to wake up. last night Iwas up from 230 to 6 am with breastfeeding her then bottle feeding bc she was still hungry after an hour of being on the boob then Istill had to pump and by the time Iwas done with everything she was ready to eat again. I'm still recovering from a csection and my back has been messed up. I justdon't havr enough energy to do all this in the middle of the night and then be up to care for my son at 7/8 I feel like I'm on the verge of breaking down
  • I think it'd be a lot easier on you (and better for your supply) if you just let her eat at night and forget about pumping for right now. It really doesn't make sense to have your husband wake up to feed her pumped milk when your up pumping anyways.
  • Breast milk is a supply/demand thing. If you stop night feelings your body will stop making as much...and your supply will drop. Agreed with ^^^ why pump when she is up to eat anyway, just feed straight from boob.
  • definitely would not stop now, w/ her being only 2wks..you need to establish and build a supply..feed on demand..
  • She just latched on for the first time since we left the hospital like two days ago. so I had to pump. but since she is use to the bottle she takes forever to bf. like she will eat for an hour and still need a bottle :(

If you just stick to it, it will get better. Sometimes breastfeeding takes a lot of work and a lot of patience. I went through the same thing, Tessa was bottle fed the first week of her life because she was in the hospital. I was diligent and able to breastfeed successfully for 7 months. Nipple shields really helped us since she was so used to the bottle. I never had a great supply and she got some formula while I worked but I did the best I could. Just hang in there and do your best.
  • Thank you I'm trying :) she just bf for over an hour and a half ...is that normal ? Where can i buy nipple sheilds i used one in the hospital and really think that might help.
  • Yep totally normal. Tessa would nurse for hours in the beginning! It was exhausting, but it won't always be that way. Target and babies r us sell the nipple shields, they were a life saver for me!
  • Agree with everything already said. This is the toughest time of constant nursing and sleep deprivation, but it's temporary! Promise! I cried one evening around 6 weeks because I thought I'd never be able to put my boob away again. LOL he was just upping my supply to meet his growing need exactly how nature intended. They linger over nursing quite a bit when they're new but she'll hit a stride soon!
  • Never give up breastfeeding.Between the times 5 to 7 or 2 to 7 am is when you should be breastfeeding because you'll get the most milk within those times.Idk why.I seen this some where LOL But you should be breastfeeding 24/7 to keep up with your supply.I'm currently EBF my almost 8 month old Saaba.I'm trying to work in some solids right now,but she only wants to eat breastmilk so I mostly just only feed her my milk.Keep up the good work Mama :)
