I've been evicted once from an apartment complex, before the actual date that i had to be out I went and applied to live in another complex WITH all the money to pay a 6 month lease upfront and I was denied because of the eviction that hadn't even been fulfilled yet. That's just one experience though, I haven't tried getting a place in my name since then (happened about a year and a half ago)
Ii have never pesonally had an eviction but I have a friend who has and they have been struggling to find a place that will rent to them. I think its just harder I'm sure some places will though.
We were evicted last year, but we found our current place before the eviction showed up on our credit report. We got super lucky though. I know if we have to move in the next 5-7yrs it will be very hard to find a place.
You can try second chance leasing and when we were getting a place I owed a past apartment I was denied. I was told to actually try a big complex bc they are less likely to check as thoroughly.
It took about 3ish weeks..we went to court Nov 21 and it showed up Dec 16th. We moved into a big complex.. they did a less thourgh credit check. Good luck
Like I said- I was served my 30 day notice to vacate, started looking at other places and applied before the 30days were up so I was still living in the apartment I was being evicted from, and it had already been on whatever report they search. I was stunned.
And this was a large complex, actually the biggest one in my county. Idk how thus all works but I know I wont be trying to get a place in my name for a while
It usually takes three months for anything to show on your credit report. Ive known many, and myself, that have been previously evicted. Renting privately, ie craigslist, is often best because individuals renting without agencies often do not do credit checks. So long as you have a deposit. I would begin looking immediately.
I've evicted a few people before and am an independent landlord. A lot of independent landlords (like myself) hire agencies to run a full background. A lot of independent landlords are doing it because it's just not worth the risk.
