natural childbirth not painful at all

edited March 2011 in Giving birth
I had a wonderful all natural birthing experience. And to all of you non believers who have fallen for the peception of fear and pain they shove in your face at every chance... I say watch The Business of Being Born (its on netflix instant que). It was one of the best things I did with my first pregnancy. It lead me to find the bradley method (partner coached childbirth) all about your partner helping do everything to help you during birth. They also educate you on what is happening to your body. Education is by far the most important thing to have when delivering your child.

  • Oh no my first delivery was excruciating and I had an epidural. It may just not be painful for some but for me I collapsed and almost blacked out from the pain before I even got the placenta out

  • Amen sister :) my baby was head down but facing the wrong way, so my birth should have been harder then a normal birth. I was fine. It was a hell of a lot of work, but not painful. it was uncomfortable at times (like period cramps) but as soon as they said I could push I was fine. I had about 20 hospital staff in the room because they had never seen a natural birth. Sad... also a huge benifit of no drugs!! I didn't rip!! They didn't pit me (check out the business of being born if u don't know the term) so the baby came at his own pace. No ripping, no medical intervention at all. My doc showed up caught my baby and gave me congrats :) it was the most amazing experience of my life! I have no idea why women would let themselves miss it in a haze of drugs :(
  • Also, as a way to balance out the slowing of ur contractions after an epidural they pit u. Pitoson is a drug used to speed up ur delivery by creating false contrations. Its extreemly painful and is what leads most women to get and epidural. It also puts stress on ur baby.

  • I'm gonna do it :D my mom thinks I'm insane, but she was induced and had epidural for both of us. I'm going to take Bradley method classes with my husband when I'm farther along (just 14 weeks now).
If the hospital will let me, I'm going to do a water birth in the whirlpool tubs they have. The hospital doesn't provide birthing stools or birthing balls. Are those really handy?
  • Wow! You have made my decision to go all natural a little more relieving :) i have metal rods all along my spine along with some other crazy srews and wires and i am not to comfortable getting an epidural because of the sensitivity. I have netflix and i think im going to have to check your suggestion out :) thankyou for giving me hope of a semi painfree delivery. My family is putting the fear of god in me with their horrifying delivery stories. But i feel a little better now :) thankyou.
  • What's the best position to birth your child? (instead of laying on your back in stirrups)
  • So this might be TMI but to the natural birthers..um...did you poop?? Thats my fear..I know its childish and thats probably the last thing on most womens minds during delivery, but I cant help it...this baby in august will be my first BTW..lol

  • Thanks! This is my first and probably only child (pregnancy has been rough and hubby already has 3 kids) so why not do it naturally? I'm not doing drugs, drinking, smoking, etc so why get pumped full of drugs at the end? I've heard natural babies are more alert too. Here's hoping my delivery isn't so fast or the baby is so big that I rip! That sounds unpleasant!

  • Again we are told from an early age how horrible it is, but look at the birthing generations b4 us. They went through experimental birthdefect causing drugs, doctor controlled births where they would knock out the mom while the dad waited in the hallway.

Educate yourself!! If u go in with no knowledge of what is happening to you ur chances are slim of having a natural birth. Hospitals want to make money not you birthing experience. You need to know when to go to the hospital to lower the chance of nurses pitting you. You need to know the stages of birth so that you know what's normal and what to expect. I believe 80% of the pain all these uneducated births complain about is fear. Fear of not knowing what is going on. You owe it to yourself and ur baby to learn about what is going on.

  • this is my first child but i simply refuse to believe that after thousands of years of women giving birth that just because "technology & medical techniques" have advance that its "vital" for women to have hospital and drugged deliveries....I have more faith in how things were always done than the "newer" ways....I can understand prenatal care but it seems so hard to find ppl with similar ways of thinking....I don't like being called crazy and selfish.
  • Labor is different for every woman some people are in labor for 2 hours while others are in labor for 12 hours. Some womens contractions are stronger than other women's. I did watch the movie before I had my second child and there was no difference from the first for me. Finally with my third I had an epidural and it was by far the best experience of the three I could remember everything and actually enjoyed my labor(yes I said enjoyed). With the other two I ripped by the time I had the baby I was shaking so bad I felt like I was close to shock. So with this baby I will be doing an epidural and hope it is just as special as my last one.
  • Pooping does happen. In ur first stage of labor u will get a movement. Bradley has you still at home during this stage so no worries there. By the time you get to transition (the hard part of labor but a short period of time) you do sometimes have small poops. The nurse just picks them up and flushes them discretly. By this time you have no feelings of emberassment. You are so in the zone you don't care.
  • I did natural with my first. It really wasn't that bad at all. Yes I did rip n had to have 2 stitches I believe. If I was able to do it again I would !
  • Natural without pain meds is great I have already had two 9 lb babys with out pain meds and plan on goin that way with this one too 17 days til the due date and he is estimated to be atleast 9lbs already on ultrasound

  • You go mommyof3!!
  • @mommyof3boys you've had a recent ultrasound???? I haven't had one since I was 24 wks and there's only 21 days left until my due date...do you think I will get another one?
  • My mom gave birth to 7 kids all natural. If she can do it, then so can I. I plan on taking bradly classes and educating myself as much possible along with my husband to help keep the drs and nurses inline.
  • I just don't see why anyone would want to be drugged up shoot natural is so great as soon as the placenta was delievered while they was cleaning each of my sons I was already in the shower and cleaned up dried my hair put on fresh clothes and make up it was great I couldn't imagine bein drugged and having to stay in the bed in that nastiness for hrs after birth
