  • It's a hard habit to break but... they help reduce SIDS

My boys had theirs till about 19 months. In my opinion its beter than thumb sucking because you are in control. When they hit 15 months I would put it up while they were playing and only give it to them when it was sleep time. Then I would put it up as soon as they fell asleep so they didn't wake up and use it again. It didn't take long for them to not need it anymore.
  • Ooh really I didnt know that thankx..my neice died from that at 8months devestating! So do u let them sleep with it in their mouth? Can they breath?
  • My daughter had one the first couple months then she wouldn't take it anymore
  • @maranda3 I kind of thought it was perfect right before age two I wasnt sure but thankx!
Sorry I forgot to put @bwhite55019on the first.
  • @momE2A09X11 oh thats pretty good! she was not about to get tricked by that anymore she wanted the real thing huh! But are they convient
  • Yes they do reduce the risk of SIDS and they can breathe with them in their mouth just fine as long as their nostrils are clear. My pediatrician told me they are good to use but start weaning around age 2. My daughter is 14 months and only uses hers for bedtime and naptime. :)
  • I'm not 100% sure ab the way it works but... I read it in numerous articles and baby book you should check into it and they also now make a pad that the baby sleeps on if he/she stops breathing it alerts u if you don't respond it alerts the baby
  • Conclusions. Published case-control studies demonstrate a significant reduced risk of SIDS with pacifier use, particularly when placed for sleep. Encouraging pacifier use is likely to be beneficial on a population-wide basis: 1 SIDS death could be prevented for every 2733 (95% CI: 2416–3334) infants who use a pacifier when placed for sleep (number needed to treat), based on the US SIDS rate and the last-sleep multivariate SOR resulting from this analysis. Therefore, we recommend that pacifiers be offered to infants as a potential method to reduce the risk of SIDS. The pacifier should be offered to the infant when being placed for all sleep episodes, including daytime naps and nighttime sleeps
  • It helped with colic too
  • @kayleeAndAmaiyasmommy & @bwhite55019 thank you so much for, that peice of knowledge! I didnt know the the role pacifiers played besides sticking them in their mouth when the baby cried. . So now I know their BEST for sleeping.

@MomE2A09X11 does colic have something to do with the skin?
  • It has to do with their digestive system
  • @beautifulme no its bellyaches/gas
  • I have two children and I took the pacifier from then both on their first b'day. After 2 days they were fine, but they were also off of the bottle before they turned 1!
  • I used one with my daughter. I weaned her off of it when she turned 1, along with the bottle. It wasn't that hard.
  • Lol ooh okay omg I learn something new everyday!
  • @Scaredmom2b & @MrsAnderson0602 thats great hopefully my exprience goes that smooth! Did yall baby start walking by age 1 also?
  • My daughter actually didn't walk until 14mo, I almost thought something was wrong, lol. But one day, she just got up and started walking. What I found is that u have to be consistent. Don't take the binky away one day and then give it back the next because they won't stop whining, lol. Just stick with it and it'll work out.
  • My son started walking at 10 months and my daughter at 8.5 but up until then the Dr and I thought something was wrong with her because she didn't know how to crawl. So she started walking before she crawled!
