need insurance help

edited March 2011 in Pregnant
Found out that I'm pregers! Made an obgyn appt. and my insurance won't cover anything.(both my insurance agent &I thought I had maternity) My husband can't afford the pregnancy alone, we don't make much but afraid we are at the border if "too much income" to have state assistance . What do we do? Arlington VA

  • Medicade then they will put you on optima or that's what they did for me & I'm in Virginia beach.
  • Just go apply for Medicaid. I've never heard of a pregnant woman being turned down for health care.
  • In Kansas they only consider the mother unborn and child in the income guide line. I am in a similar predicament my insurance doesn't cover maternity care. State denied me insurance since we make too much for a family of three, even though with the inborn we are a family if 5. So they do turn people away, however call your health department I got a really good price for everything. Way less then my OB's office, let's say at least half and that included the hospital and drugs if needed.

  • I just got my "moms and babies" state insurance card in today and I applied the begining of december, so start looking now. They will go back n pay ur medical bills so don't worry about that. Well at least here in IL. They do
  • It never hurts to try Medicaid. Here n Indiana they also have HIP which is cheap insurance for people who don't qualify for Medicaid. Make phone calls n research there has to b something available.
  • Go to the health dept and talk with the social worker. I didn't have job after returning to Louisiana from travel nursing in california. Im a RN and make alot of money for a single person. I applied for medicaid and had my card within a week.
  • Great! Thanks so much everyone, I'm feeling a lot more hopeful now :)
  • So I was denied state help, no new insurance will rake me since I'm already pregnant, and the local health clinic will see me BUT they said with my husbands combined income we would have to pay full price. I won't even get to see a doctor for another 3 weeks (I'm already 9weeks along) and fear that I might be a high risk because of some cysts........... now what
