Blood types question

edited March 2011 in Pregnant
We just found out that my sister in law (who is due just two months after me) has a dufferent blood type than the father (something to do with negative, positive) and she needs to get injections all the time to keep the babies blood from crossing with hers..or somethung like that. Her midwife says its very rare and could be dangerous and requires a c sec. Does anyone have exoerience or insite to share? I've never heard of this..

  • I had it! Have to go through it again this pregnancy. I'm O- so, they told me the same thing. They're Rogam injections & the c-section was something I am glad I had done, lol. As long as you keep up with your injections you're fine!
  • Me and my SO have diff bloodtypes, @kateee10 he is also O- and I'm B+. How do they test to determine whether or not that is needed.
  • They can do the test when they do bloodwork ups, normally automatically now, I have a different blood type then the bd, but luckily the baby has my blood type so I don't have to worry abt it. Your blood would have the antibodies of the + or - if you need to get the shots.
  • I also have o- blood. My dr said only 15% of people have negetive blood. When mom has negetive and Dad has positive blood its an rhFactor issue. Look it up online its not the best situation but its not the worst either. I have to get the shot also, but my dr has said nothing about having to have a c section. I'm going to ask him about that at my next appointment.
  • Well, if the baby doesn't have the same rh factor as you which is the negative or the positive. You're body has the ability to reject the baby if somehow fluids come in contact or of there is a slight tearing. My hubby is A+ so again my injections are needed. It's just a precaution.
  • I'm o- and needed the injections. I've had 2 healthy babies naturally, they never even mentioned c secon. My mom is o- also and had 3 kids no c section. I've never heard of that.
  • If the mother is negative blood type and the father is positive the baby might be positive blood type as well. I have o- and my husband is b+ So I had to get the rogam (spelling? Sorry ) a few weeks before I delivered and after I delivered baby is b+ to keep me from getting sick. If both parents are negative or both are positive no shot is needed. I'm not sure about if mother is positive and father is negative.
  • Its called a rogham shot. Women with negative blood types get them. I get mine at 28 weeks and since my daughter has a pos blood type I had to have another after delivery. Its not rare and you don't need to have a c section.
  • @cadymj27 they only give it if the mother has - blood type
  • Thanks mome2a09x11
  • @babyboybabyboy2011 im 0- and my hubby is B+ I have had to get roam injection while I was preg evrytime and when baby was born they test babies blood and if the baby is positive I have to get another injection within 24hrs.which all of my children have my hubby's blood type.I have nvr had a c section yet and this is my 5th pregnancy. Plz look up info and let ur dr know u have looked into it. U absolutely do not need a c section.that just makes me mad.drs get paid more for c sections.don't let them do that to u.if its wht u want that's one thing but if not don't let them take advantage of u.sry I just started ranting and realized its not u its for ur sister in law,sry plz let her know.good luck to u and ur sis in law
