Autism..

edited March 2011 in Pregnant
Anyone on here have any autistic children? I have a ten year old boy who is, he is awesome and amazing, but I'm just wondering what the chances of my new baby being autistic as well.. I know boys are more likely to have it than girls and we just found out today that were having a boy.. I wouldn't change my son or this new baby in any way, I'm just wondering about the statistics..

  • I have a 3 yr old..I think he might b autistic..how can I know for shure..what were some of the symptoms you saw in your son.
  • I have a 15 yo stepson he has aspergures syndrome sp? But im not sure about risks because there is no known cause in stepsons case
  • My son is almost 3 and he has asbergers. Syndrome as well. My 2 ye old and newborn don't show signs of it. From what I hear its a slim chance of a new baby having it..
  • My aunt and uncle have a ten year old son with Asperger Syndrome and a seven year old without it. Granted, the seven year old is a daughter, but they knew upon conception that their son had autism, just not which classification at the time. They went to a genetic counselor, I believe, to discuss the likelihood of having another child with autism, and he said the statistics he had could not say definitely whether or not they would have another child with autism because there are so many factors in play when it comes to the disorder. You might want to speak to medical specialist in the field. He or she might be able to answer any questions you might have and refer you to the proper people.
  • My son is 8 and he has autism, i believe it is more popular in boys . One of my friends has 3 boys with autism an one girl who doesn't. He said the docs told him when he had his first boy if he had more theres a chance they could have it. I dont know how true that is. My doc did say when we found out my son had autism at 3 year old it is most likely passed down,i believe my husband has some traits of the spectrum too.
  • my son didnt show any symptoms that we noticed until his speech delay, he met all other milestones: rolling over, walking and crawling.. He was so lovey and huggy but when he wasn't speaking at age 3 we called "early intervention" and they came and evaluated him.. Within weeks he was receiving speech and occupational therapies.. It worked wonders for us and him, however it was and continues to be a struggle with daily things, homework is more than a chore for us but as I said I wouldn't change him for the world, I do have a slight fear for this child as I see the frustrations my son has.. No matter what I know this baby is already special and will be well loved..
  • Hey my 5 year old son has autism & I love him to death but its a job because he is nonverbal. I am expecting my 2nd son june 8th and I was worried at first to but all u can do is pray and leave it in God's hand. When I was worried in the beginning of my pregnancy I seen a study that was done saying if you get pregnant within i think it was 2 or 3 years after your previous child then it is a good possibly that that child will be autistic too. But if you wait at least 3 years after your previous pregnancy the next child should be ok. You can look it up though, but yea it is more common in boys then girls.
