Remove piercings....

edited March 2011 in Pregnant
When you go to the hospital do they really make you take out all your jewelery? I have my tongue, septum, belly button, and ears stretched. I really don't want anything to close up

  • I was wondering the same thing. I have to have a c-section, so I'm wondering if they will make me tke mine out. I hv a lip and nose piercing.
  • I was watching one born every minute and they made this chick remove her lip piercing. That shouldn't close too fast....but my tongue will close in a few hours I may just hide it lol
  • Oh I'll be so upset, my nose is hard to put back through after 20 minutes or so. I'll just make hubby carry the jewelry in his pocket so I can put it back in as soon as I get back to my room :). They have spacers that you can put in your tongue, that are clear. That might help hide it :)
  • Okay as long as I can keep em all in for awhile. My tongue closes super fast last time in an under an hour it was halfway!! Same with my septum. That does suck. Good thing I didn't get all the others I wanted lol
  • Bummer.....all babies first pics w/ mom will be with me strapped down AND a hole in my lip. Haha! That's ok, whatever it takes to be safe. @cmckelvie86 thanks for answering her question, and mine too! :-D
  • @mandiixmayhem funny I as thinking the same thing! Guess my eyebrow and spiderbite will have to wait till post baby :)
  • ooh that sux. my gf has her tongue pierced n 3 on her lip. my lip is pierced too n I know it closes pretty fast.
  • For my son I didn't have to take out my belly button ring I delivered him vaginally but with this one I have no clue because I now have my lady friend pierced n idk if they'll let me keep that in "/
  • If u replace everything with plastic u should be fine, there are nose tounge, lip retainers that r clear. I have my belly, top and bottom done, both nipples, eyebrow, nose and tounge done. And my Dr. Said as long as I have retainers in I should be fine.
  • @mzmommy1st THAT'S what their called. I knew spacers didn't sound right. I bet since they are plastic they won't care if I have them in, even for a c-section. I will have to order some before the big day! Thanx!
  • Oh goodness, it's going to be a lot to take out if they make me. :p I'd only be worried about my nose, I can leave all my holes empty for days and they won't close up, but that darn nose. x)
  • No problem, and do order online, much cheaper and more to choose from. I have to many piercings that I don't want closed so the plastice retainers is the way to go, and if ur still worried that they might make u even take em out, make sure they r CLEAR.
  • Retainers it is. I hate plastic tongue rings I always end of eating em Haha.
  • The awesome thing about tounge retainers is, that its a bottom flat surface and a lil plastice ring goes on top to prevent it falling out, no balls included. U can't even tell its there. My hubby wears them everyday cuz he is in the army and can't have ne piercings in.
  • DDoes the ring pop off at all.....I mean I've had mine for years so I don't play with it anymore im just worried ill swallow it. Maybe ill buy a couple lol
  • Guess it would depend on the hospitals and how strict they want to be that day.
  • I wanted to know the same thing. I have 13 piercings and it`ll be a pain in the ass to take `em all out :S
  • Get retainers. They're plastic and shouldn't interfer.

I'm wondering about surgical steel though. :/ I have my nipples done and my piercer said that I could go through an ekg
  • *with them in.
  • @Brittinini They ask you to take that out for vag deliveries so theres less chance of it ripping out (ouch). But, the plus side is that it won't close up. It's a "lifetime" piercing.
  • @Maranda3 that's really a lifetime piercing? Interesting.

Anyone know about breast feeding with nipple piercings? I don't have mine done but I do want them in the future. Just curious for when I have another baby :)
  • Yeah I have mine done and once had it out for 4 years and it was still pierced. Went back in easy peasy lol.
  • Oh wow!!! I've been debating on getting that one....but my mom has it (hate that I know that!!) and that's just one thing I would rather not have in common with her lol
  • YEAH, THEY DO MAKE U TAKE EVERYTHING OUT :( @MANDIIXMAYHEM HOW LONG HAS UR TONGUE BEEN PIERCED THAT IT CLOSES UP SO SOON?
  • I have almost 30 piercings and haven't taken most out since I got them pierced ugh...
  • They let me keep the plastic ones in but I had to remove everything metal...I got to keep my eyebrow and ears gauged to 5/8" at the time...but my tongue nose and lip had to come out...
  • Okay I have my ears-5 in my left, 4 in my right (the left has a cartlidge), my tongue, my nipples, belly button, hood. I had them all in with my first 3 kids. With my 4th it was an emergency c-section, they made me take all out except for my wedding ring/engagement ring, earrings. The rest had to come off/out. I was in a medically induced coma for 2mos, then another 2mos in the hospital. I put all but my nipple rings&earrings back in 2wks before I went home. The earrings&nipple rings finally put back in about a month or 2 after I came home, so they were out a total of 5-6mos. They didn't close up.
  • @marriedwith_3 I've had it for 4 years now. A year the first time. Even my lip piercings closed within a day. Im convinced my mouth is super healing :p

@candace42 holy crap....that's a lot. You'd be there for awhile talking all this out.

I guess ill just keep plastic in and hope they can stay. Even my ears shrink fast. Im at 3/4.
  • I've had my nose pierced. Currently have my ears gaged and lip and belly button pierced. They used to close up really quick ( like a few hrs quick ) until I started taking them in and out on a frequent basis (I had to for sports) now that I remove them I can go a long time with them out (had my lip out for six months, didn't completely heal over) maybe try training them a bit??
  • I think I may try that. I mean I pierce myself so it wont be that bad if they close I would just rather not. But im def going to try that.
