Has anyone here had a natural birth w/o epidural or planning on it??

  • Im plannin on it but im kinda afraid
  • I'm thinking about it. The thought of a needle going in my back disturbs me and I can handle pain. Not so sure if I can handle childbirth pain, but I've talked to a bunch of women who have done it.
  • I asked my mom about it because she had both. She said she would not recommend anyone have a child naturally. She had it naturally her 2nd time giving birth(with me im the youngest ) with my sister she had the epidural. The only reason she had it natural with me was because her blood pressure was too high.
  • Have y'all ladies ever heard of the bradley method...y'all should look it up. Its all about teaching woman about how to have a safe and natural child birth
  • I was going to with my first pregnancy but my blood pressure went so high from being in pain, they told me I could either pick an epidural so my blood pressure would come down or I was going straight to surgery for a C-section. Soo, I ended up having to have one.
It made me really sad but you have to do what you have to do.

I had all my babies natural. My first when I was 17 Im now 26 going on baby #5 hoping for a boy I have 4 girls.. Yes its painful but the experience is well worth it.
  • I wanted to do a water birth but no place here has it. So i plan to do mine natural. Actually for ppl who go "green" thats the way to go and lots of movie stars are doing it lately
  • I had all three of my babies natural :)
  • I had my first natural no pain meds or epidural. Second one had to have c section cuz I had a GI bleed and his heart rate kept dropping. Im hoping to have a vbac with this one. In my opinion natural is better... I personally didn't like the epidural. I also didn't like the longer recovery time or restrictions you have with c-section. It broke my heart when my son wanted me to pick him up and I couldn't. Everyone is different tho and everyone has different pain tolerance. My best advice is to go in with your ideal method...but be open to doing what is best for both you and the baby. Fighting pain you cant tolerate could be more harmful to you both. Good luck to us all and hope we all have healthy babies!
  • I wanted to have my daughter naturally, but she was 9lb 4oz & turned sideways. She dislocated my tailbone & that hurt so bad I couldn't even FEEL the contractions at all and I was dilated to 7cm after having my membranes stripped, nor did I feel the epidural needle go in & they had to do it TWICE b/c the first one didn't work... I hope this time around I don't need one, but all I can say is I think its good to go into it planning for a natural birth, but be open minded to it if you end up needing one for medical reasons & please don't beat yourself up for it! I bawled when I asked for mine, but taking it made my birthing experience wonderful instead of horrifying... good luck to all of you! :)
  • I want to go natural but I wont know till im doing it. my mom said if she was to have another she would go natural, she had an epi with my brothers but not me and I was almost 10#s. ive talked to others who have done both and the majority say go without.
    good luck!!
  • This is my second firsy was a csection and now it mite b a vbac so im realy hoping yo go natural. Lets see wat happens.
  • I had natural birth with my daughter Its an amazing thing it hurts but Its so worth it all the pain goes away when your baby comes out.. do it natural
  • I really want to do natural but I'm a huge whimp when it comes to pain so I'm scared. But a friend of mine told me that she wished she had gone natural because she got the epidural and now she can't feel anything from her lower back down and that freaks me out.
  • I went natural, but I didn't have a choice bc I delivered in 40 minutes. I really want to go natural again, but I'm really scared! Don't know if I can handle 12 hours of labor. First time was a breeze. Guess I will make a second plan if it doesn't go the way I want!
  • I'm having the epidural as an option, like sign for it so if I can't do it I will het it. But I'm going for having the baby with out. The possible paralysed part scares me, I'm going to ask my Dr what exercises I can do to help with labor
  • @irishbaby my friendvsaid the same thing but she gets Sharp pains
  • Yea the part about being partial paralyzed really scared me too. Especially because I am a ballet dancer, that's my life. But the most important thing to me is that my lil boy comes out healthy and happy.
  • I've given birth 4 times 2 with epidural and 2 all natural. My 4th baby was natural and i was induced 12 days early. Labored for 4 hours used a birthing ball during labor which i loved & will use again with this baby and 2 pushes later i gave birth to my 9lb 7oz baby girl with out any pain meds. I am going natural again doing Bradley Method & birthing ball. It is painful but once baby is out contractions are gone. You can do it just prepare yourself & learn how to breath through contractions.
  • I didn't want to have my first naturally, but I wanted to go as long as I could without medicine. Needless to say I wimped out during my 31 hour labor. Ended up having a c-section cuz my boy just didn't wanna come out. And he was already 2 weeks late, I'm happy that I was able to have him on fathers day tho
  • I really want to do natural...my husband thinks I am nuts! But this is my first child so I have no idea the pain that's coming. Im keeping my options open though if there are unexpected complications.
  • I wanted to go natural with my daughter but I always had an option of asking for an epidural. I got to 4cm and started having back labor, i went through that for 4 hours and still no change in my cervix because I could not relax enough for the contractions to work properly. I agreed to an epidural. It felt like a small sting and they numb you, afterwards you just have to stay still through your contractions and just feel the pressure from the needles. It doesn't take more than maybe ten minutes but its worth it if you need it. With this one, I will try to go naturally again but I will still have that option of an epidural ready in case things don't go the way I planned. Good luck! By the way, those things that can happen with an epidural are extremely rare, they have you read paperwork and sign it before you get one.
  • Im planning on having a natural birth
  • And the good thing about an epidural, is if you decide to get one, it wont have any effects on your baby like the gas, stadol, etc. Does.
