  • LOL I feel the same way! I've told my mom all the new do's and don'ts she laughed! Says me and my sister should be dead LOL. I still eat lunch meat! I still eat Dippy eggs! I still eat medium rare steak! And still take a nice hot bath! Seriously didn't know about all these do's and don'ts with my first 2 and they are perfectly fine!
  • i just smile n say thanks for your input but im the one growing this kid you had yours already:)
  • There's probably more miscarriages nowadays then there was then my fiancee started saying you can't do this or that whilst reading a book i said look i appriceate (bad spelling sorry) your concern and I'm glad your taking an interest but if i followed that i wouldn't be able to breath! lol
  • Salami and pepperoni cold I eat all the time!LOL

  • I am pregnant with my third and didn't realize there were so many no nos, deli meat being one of them. My two older children are perfectly healthy and I know I ate deli meat with them, I also drank way more caffeine than is recommended.
  • Even tho there are a lot of no nos that our moms didnt abide by I choose to pay attention to them. It took me 5 yrs to get this baby to grow in me and I dont want to risk anything for it.
  • Just because you did those things before or your moms did them and you turned out healthy doesn't mean your baby will have the same luck. They tell you not to do certain things for a reason, because back then when our moms were pregnant they didn't know about certain risks and there obviously were babies somewhere born with diseases as a result of eating certain things so they change the rules on what to eat and what not to eat. I'm not taking the risk, I never eat anything that could harm my baby. The whole deli meat thing isn't true though unless you eat old outdated meat, my doctor told me its perfectly fine to eat deli meat as long as its fresh from the deli.
  • Haha... I just gotta say if those things were true I don't think I could ever have kids... I eat raw fish... my steak must be rare or I won't eat it... i don't wash my fruits... deli sandwiches are a staple in my diet... I sleep on my back(cant help what happens when I sleep) I don't shower b4 sex, caffeine is my favorite word kg gosh and so muchelse
  • @jalem you really should wash your fruit even if your not pregnant. They spray so many pesticides on them especially grapes. I almost feel guilty feeding grapes to my kids.

  • I agree that all these "no no's" are a bit excessive and I feel the same way most of u do "what did women do 'back then'" but...at the same time, if somethin DID come to happen, id feel so guilty.
  • So true! My mom smoked like a freight train throughout her pregnancies with me and my 2 sisters, and drank dr pepper like water! She ate whatever she wanted.

This is my third pregnancy and I never even heard of these rules about lunch meat and soft cheese until I came to this forum. So I still have my lunch meat and my cheeses, but I don't do all the things momma did. Plus I am older than she was when she had us... My body isn't as resilient as it was 10 years ago.
  • I hate when people dont agree with something and put their two cents in. I understand it takes people along time to get pregnant and. those people want to follow the "rules"! I have had a miscarriage and I love how people say too much caffeine can make u have a miscarriage. seriously how foolish does that sound.
  • @mom60511 maybe I should've specified.. I only eat fruits and vegis I grow.. lolz... sorry for the confusion...
  • Oh then you know what you put on them lol @jalem
  • @mom60511 yeah but I still get it from people about not washing it... I grow it in a green house so there's no bird poop
  • i have lowered my caffeine intake but I still drink dr pepper (not quite as much) I eat deli meat once again not as much I am not giving up cheese and I love fast food
  • Things have changed big time. I believe things are a little overboard. Someone said .more mc now then before, there's more allergies, more illnesses. More sudden deaths its sad. Are we really doing good by protecting our children from germs? Let them eat dirt Sheesh. LOL I take advice and listen to the doc of course but I take what I learned as a kid and what I've learned as an early childhood educator as well and make it my own.

This is a discussion about NOT fallowing the rules. negativity of those who decide to fallow them is not wanted.... annoying. Already annoyed with the rules and have to hear about it more annoying.
  • @shmegs I agree the reason there's all this illness and allergies is because we can't build up any immunities now cause everyone is trying to be so sterile and change what's natural that is what creates these crazy superviruses. Oh and why is it every single discussion on here turns into fight
  • Wow therewas no reason to get an attitude @ghettobetty. If you didnt want any alternate opinions then you should have stated that. I dont think anyone was putting you down for choices...i think opinions were stated politely and were in no way rude..
  • One rule that I read was you shouldn't eat pineapple while pregnant because it can cause early labor. After doing a little bit of my own research on it I found out that whatever the chemical, vitamin whatever it is that would cause this in pineapple is low enough that you would have to eat 7 whole pineapples to see any effects. I don't know too many people that could eat 7 pineapples in one sitting. I decided my little can of pineapple occasionally would be just fine.
  • I dont know but all this drama has made me really want a subway sandwhich =P~
  • @diverwfe 100% agreed. To much bleach and bitching.. lol
  • I freely admit that I've eaten raw sushi knowing that I'm pregnant. That beautiful red tuna just looked so appetizing. I also had sea urchin roe which is delicious :) I eat Chinese food, deli meat, and I drink caffeine (I've lowered my intake tho). I'm pretty sure that enjoying my food and nourishing my baby with fish, cheese, and occasionally some fruity pebbles isn't such a bad thing.
  • My moms always telling me a cant vacuum ...idk if its true..but i never tryed to look up y? Shes always making up stuff!
  • The is problem is when there is one case outta a million of something happening they warn you about it same thing with the pineapple oh no there is a tiny risk if you eat a lot so you better not eat any
  • @beatrice1436 never heard of that one but I am always doing it lol
