Army or Fireman

edited March 2011 in Pregnant
So i'm 18 and my fiance is 7 weeks pregnant i'm still deciding between trying to get a firefighting job or joining the army for one enlistment period and then becoming a fireman. Can some of the army wives or marine wives or any branch wives please give me there opinion on what would be best financially and would be in the best interest in helping my soon to be family.

  • Im a army wife and i love it but if u join now ull miss out on a lot of you babys growing, my gubbie deploys April and will be gone most of our sons first year, hope that kinda helps
  • So all the advice given so far is good but I would say weigh ur options talk to ur fiance about it and look at how long u will be away for basic and ait honestly I'm in the army and my husband are I'm 14 weeks prego and he leaves 2 weeks after baby is born.....honestly I would much rather him be gone during the pregnancy and home for the first year but I'm not that lucky.....but If I had the option of joining again I would do it because its a guarentee job with health insurance and most civilian jobs can't guarentee that....look at what's best for u and ur family before listing to what others tell u to do.
  • I would say military. Ex army wife my husband is out now due to injuries in iraq. Anyways its depending on what they say after your test but I would say army you will be gone for a longer time due to basic and ait but if you decide to take mos as 19k (tanker) you would do both on the same time period and wouldn't ne gone that long and unless you have college you will start out as a private. Of course you have a lot of benefits being married for your dam what civilian jobs don't provide.
