pap smear, brown blood, clots & 8 weeks pregnant

edited March 2011 in First Trimester
This is my first pregnancy that was made it to 8 weeks. A few days ago I had my first doctors appointment. The doctor gave me a flu shot and a pap smear.
The next day, I had mild cramps and some dark brown spotting (I figured this was due to the pap). I called my doctor and was told that this is normal. Now, there is a lot of dark brown blood with large clots and some red blood. I am wearing a pad, but can feel it coming and able to get to a bathroom to wipe. Does anyone have these? Should I call my doctor again or am I just over worried?

  • I had that it lasted for about a week. It was bc my uterus had an irritated area. If u fill up one of the big pads (not the panty liners) then call ur doctor back or go to the er to help ease ur mind.
  • Go to the er!!!! That's not a good sign! Blood clots are not okay. I'm praying for you
  • First, ER. This happened to me at 6 weeks, and I thought I was miscarrying. Turned out to ne a subchorionic hemmorage. the blood was darker, and brown with clots and miserable cramping. they can do internal ultrasound and verify. this is very largely NOT harmful to baby or you and can cause weeks of spotting and never-ending worrying. am now 11 weeks and baby doing great w strong heartbeat. Hopefully this is all it is, please get checked and prayers your way!
  • I WOULD SAY GO TO THE ER. THIS HAPPENED TO ME ALSO AT 8 WEEKS &&I HAD A LOT OF DARK BROWN BLOOD ONE MORNING WHEN I WOKE UP BUT AFTER WHEN I WOULD WIPE I WAS HAVING A LOT OF BLOOD CLOTS WITH DARK BROWN &&RED BLEEDING BUT THANK GOD WHEN I WENT TO THE ER EVERYTHING CAME UP POSITIVE &&GOT AN ULTRASOUND &&WAS ABLE TO SEE MY BBY ALONG WITH THE LITTLE BEATING HEARTBEAT. AFTER DR JUST TOLD ME TO STAY ON BED REST &&EXCUSED ME FROM WORK UNTIL SECOND ULTRASOUND AT 15 WEEKS. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY CRAMPING BUT IF YU DO I WOULD SAY THAT'S EVEN MORE OF A REASON FOR YU TO GO TO THE ER.

GOOD LUCK &&HOPE EVERYTHING WORKS OUT FOR YU &&YUR BBY ;)
  • Thanks for the advice everyone! Had an ultra sound done. The only thing they are telling me is that it doesn't look promising. I will keep you posted.
  • I had a similar experience. We were on our way home from a trip, a couple hours driving, got home and I noticed dry brown blood stains in the middle of my panties
  • Continued...went to the ER they did a pelvic, took blood work, bleeding stopped. The next morning I went back for a ultra vaginal ultrasound. Doctor said everything was intact. I go for my first visit with OB on April 5th.
