Is it selfish of me?

edited March 2011 in Baby names
Recently we decided we like the name Drake if we have a boy. But I want Drake as a middle name so chose Jaedyn Drake but he wanted Drake Jarell. But he comes in today demanding that our son have my middle name Semaj. Drake Semaj sounds stupid to me and Semaj is MY name that my grandpa gave me. Semaj is James spelled backwards and my grandpa's name was James. My grandpa passed when I was 6 months pregnant with my daughter. Anyway, I don't want to share my name since its the last thing of my grandpa still remaining...I want our kids to have their own names. He called me selfish. It maybe selfish but to me my name has sentimental value...What do you think?

  • What about drake james.. I used andrew for my first sons middle name because my dad and grandpa and brother had it. Family tradition. But its your baby. Give it time or four names ;)
  • Hubby doesn't want James. Which is the same as Semaj...Andrew is my hubbys middle name too! :D Four names would be alot to put down especially since I write big. Lol
  • Lol true long names are confusing to the children in school ... I honestly don't see u being selfish but guys don't get atttached like us hormonal ladys do .
  • Just start crying and tell him that you love the name you picked... LOL guys hate how emotional we get LOL everytime I cry I get my way LOL
  • @LannahsMama-crying never works for me. Lol He tells me to suck that sh*t up! Lol
  • LOL sorry maybe I just have a soft hearted Guy lol
  • Why all of a sudden does he want your son to have your middle name?
  • @Conreeaght-thats what I asked and he said I don't know it looks cool and he will have both his mom and great-grandpa name. And we don't have to worry about 40 other kids named Semaj like we will Brooklyn (our daughter)...He made a good point there since Brooklyn is super popular here.
  • I see his point with no other kids will have the name but if part of the reason he likes the name is because it Is your name and you don't want that it more or less makes it counter intuitive.

Maybe there is someone on his side of the family you can name him after, a merging of James/Semaj and his grandfathers' name?
  • @conreeaght-The only person in his family we would name the baby after is his dad Jacob aka Jake. We were going to do Jacob James but the double J wasn't working for us. So I thought of Jaedyn. Yes, its super popular but we get the J we both like and Drake as the middle name he picked. We still have 17 weeks 1day to decided. But who knows, we are both stubborn and want things our way so if its a boy, he may have 2 middle names or a whole new name.
  • Who ever gets the birth certificate first wins?

    :) j/k
Two middle names might not be as bad as you think it may be. Have you found any other j names that hubby might like?
