Progesterone Suppository?

Goodmorning Mommies!
I just talked to my doctor this morning, and because of the miscarriage in December she has prescribed
me progesterone suppositories. I'm only about 4weeks pregnant just missed period.
Has anyone had to take them, and did they work, and side effects?

    I'm on the weekly shots and they seem to work. Chance of carrying full term with progesterone shots or suppositories is much higher than without.

    Y are u on the shots instead of the suppositories?

    I have an incompitent cervix and my doc put in a cerclage and put me on progesterone suppositories until 34 weeks I'm 25 weeks now and I put one everynite at bedtime and so far I have had no side effects and my cervix has dialated any the only thing is when u get up and u have put one in the nite before you'll have stains in your underwear from the medication me I just whip my old period panties and wear them to bed but goodluck on the medication it has helped me if not for it I would have done went into labor

    I was put on them too just till 12 weeks I'm so glad to be off of them I did get blurred vision a couple of times and the r so messy

    Yes it made it nasty as he'll eeeeewwwwww and if u do have sex then go to wipe its like having sex while using monostat Well idk how to spell that but u get it

    I had a miscarriage in may. My doc put me on progesterone this time as soon as I started to spot, but it's a pill. Seems to have helped a lot. I've stopped spotting and the doc says I'm doing so much better I can go a month between appointments now. Was going every week and I'm only at 9wks now. You might ask your doc why he chose a suppository instead of an oral pill? Not sure what the difference would be.

    I am on pill form of progesterone bc when I was pregnant in Aug my progesterone numbers were low and I ended up with a blighted ovum. From what I was told the suppository works better. But my levels have been great with the pill. And if I remember correctly she said I will take them until I am 10 weeks. Also u can have sex and then put it in before bed....just make it the absolute last thing u do.

    Thanks ladies, I think she put me on the suppositories because the only difference is that its absorbed better.
    All of the comments has been very helpful, and I'm glad that it has helped everyone continue with successful pregnancies. :)

    Cause I've had 2 babies preterm. I don't really know exactly what the difference is. You have to start them at 16 weeks. So that's when I started. Now my shots are 1500 a week. Hopefully tricare will continue covering them.

    Yes that says $1500.00 a shot. Yuck!

    So the suppositories are temporary? The shots are every week til week 40.

    Yea there for the beginning of pregnancy up to 12 weeks just so u can keep the pregnancy my doc says u don't really need it after that but every person and pregnancy is totally different. ;)

    I've had so many m/c that as soon as I found out I was pregnant again I demanded progesterone pills. I take them the first trimester along with a handfull of other pills. 13w and I haven't been rushed to the er or anything

    The shots are to prevent preterm labor. I've had 2 babies preterm. One who died. I don't have risk of m/c. Just preterm birth.

    Hi ladies...I found out my progesterone is 5.5 so I will be going on suppositories...I had an u/s yesterday and saw my little peanut with a heartbeat so I'm terrified to lose him/her. At this rate are my numbers to low for a successful pregnancy? Ughhhh I need some encouragement!! I'm just terrified right now!! Oh my hcg is at 2900 so I'm 6 wks!!
