help!!! im 34 wks 1day will my bahy be okay if hes born today

I'm so scared that if my baby us born today that he will have a lot of complications. I've been having contractions since last Sunday. Has anyone had a baby early and how did it go? They also told me he only weighs 4pds 11oz and that he wasn't practing breathing.

    The baby should be fine. They told me that the baby born at 34 weeks might have to be monitored in the nicu.

    Thanks so much for yall's responses. They've already given me the shot to stop contractions and they stopped for a little less than a day. But then they started again so I'm just scared. My doctor said he needs to stay in atleast another week

    My twins were born at 34 weeks. One was 3 lbs 2 oz, and the other was 5 lbs and 5 oz. Both were in nicu because they could not breath on there on yet. I had had the steroids shot but it had not had time to work. Today both of my girls t healthy happy 7 month olds learning new things every day and being the light of my life. :)

    That's awesome I would lobe to have twins. How long were they in the hospital.

    Chance of survival is very good,unless there are other complications. Baby myt have to b in nicu for somtym till gains sum wt n can breath on it's own. I hope u have had the steroid shots by now. Most important of all is that u shudn b stressed out bc it will cause even more premature labour. . .so relax, babies of 18 wks even did survive...thanks to medical science. Have faith in God !

    If it helps u any I was born 6 1/2 weeks early n I will be 28 soon n I was n am as healthy as can be n have 2 beautiful lil girls n one on the way :) your baby should be just fine if was born now

    I'm a twin and my brother and I were born at 35 weeks. I was 4 and half pounds and my twin 5 and half. And I'm healthy as could be :) and same as my brother.

    My cousin was born at 28 weeks and weighed 3 lbs he had to be in the nicu for awhile but he is now 17 years old and a healthy athlete with no medical problems

    Thanks. And no they haven't given me any steroids. It just worries me since they said he wasn't practing breathing.

    @felicia89 even if he doesn't have the breathing skills he will develop it soon, as I said bfore just myt have to stay in nicu for a while

    Babies born at 34 weeks usually do really well. They might need a little support with breathing for a little while, but it is mostly just oxygen with a little pressure behind it to keep the lungs inflated. Mostly, 34 weekers just have a hard time eating right away because their suck, swallow, breathe mechanism is so brand new. Most preemies go home around their due date, but can go sooner if they're breathing well on their own and gaining weight. And my son was 32.4 weeks and did great. Male sure you do ask for the betamethasone though...it helps speed up your baby's lung maturity but has to have time to take effect.

    I had my first baby at 34 weeks. She's 4 1/2 now and you'd never know she was a preemie. She's not behind on anything! I was in the hospital for a while before I delivered her and they gave me the steriod shots. I think they really helped her. If you are really scared, you should talk to your doctor about them.

    to moniter him. but he is perfect
