QUESTION...was it difficult for any of ur obgyn's to find babys heartbeat at 11wks????

edited April 2011 in First Trimester
I found out pregnancy very early at 3wks so my first prenatal visit was at 5wks then 2nd 11wks. She couldn't find a heartbeat though(@ 11wks) I was thinking it was ok til I started reading ur posts about movement at 14 wks which I am now. I did although hear a heartbeat at 7wks during 1st ultrasound. I'm just curious now to know ur experiences! Next visit @ 17wks.

  • We were able to hear mine at 9 weeks
  • I'm 18 wks and can only see mine by US. I wouldn't worry if your doc isn't (assuming you trust him/her). Good luck to you!
  • My doc had issues finding my daughters. I learned where it was (almost always in thr same spot) so I could point her in the right direction.
  • I think it depends on the position of the baby. Mine not to long ago was refusing the monitor but she's so big we found it no matter what she did.

    Have they tried finding it?
  • Yeah...she tried!!! I go back on the 19th! I should definitely hear then!
  • I hope everything is okay. Let us know
  • Thanks I will.

  • At 11 weeks 3 days we have to do an ultra sound since the heart doppler couldn't pick our it up. Last time I barely felt urge baby at 16 weeks and full on at 20
  • @mommyof3tobe my placenta is facing my stomach and they have to try pretty hard for the heartbeat until recently since she is like on my back, maybe that's whats happening? hope all is wonderful! :)

  • @FirstTimeMommyToBe dang you think as a doctor they would know that. mine has been telling me that since the first ultrasound, the heart beat is stronger now since I'm further along but it sounded like it was far away and covered in wind every time they used the doppler. you're like 5 days behind me, have you found out what you're having yet??

  • @FirstTimeMommyToBe lol- that's how it was with me, I just knew it was a girl, but thought what do I know I've never had a baby before and just hoped for the best. And you're right about the stores. I would look at lil boy stuff since that's what I wanted and was always like they never have anything its all girl stuff! I haven't bought anything yet but my husband is about to be seeing all pink LOL

  • Yea it was and i started crying cuz i thought something was wrong...we had a ultra sound done and the baby was moving all around but the next day i went for a genectics testing and got to hear it
  • We couldn't hear the heartbeat on the doppler at 12 wks so my dr used the ultrasound. He said it was no big deal, that it was pretty common.

I am 22 wks now and we have heard it at every other visit.
  • I knew I was preggo before I ever tested. Started having symptoms the week after conception. So then I started freaking out, and had almost convinced myself I was having a chemical pregnancy, that I wasn't really pregnant, that I just wanted a baby so bad I convinced my body that it was pregnant!!

Finally 10 weeks rolls around and I get my first appt. It took my midwife forever to find the heartbeat! I felt like I could cut the tension in the room. I was so freaked out, and my fiance was sitting there, excited, nervous, and terrified. And I'm screaming in my head, "oh my god, there's no baby in there! It is all in my head!" When she finally found a faint "whomp whomp whomp whomp" sound and we laughed and cried and it was okay.

Now I'm 17 weeks and I have a home heart monitor and I can find the baby no problem until the little punk swims away and makes me find him/her again.
  • Think I may get one of those monitors for home. The kids will really like it too!! I still haven't told them.
  • I plug it into some computer speakers so we can listen together. We even took to his family's house so we could let them hear the heartbeat. It was awesome.

When the baby is really low near my pelvic bone, where there's less fat, it doesnt sound like the "whomp whomp" noise, it sounds like I have a stethiscope right on the baby's chest! With "thud thud" noises. We have the AngelSounds monitor. Again, it was about $30 on Amazon and we use regular personal lubricant on my tummy for better sound.
  • @ jwigs, Hey thanks!!! Sounds very affordable! :-)
  • Its normal if you have a tipped utris
  • Mine was really hard to find at 12 weeks. He almost got the ultrasound machine to make sure everything was fine, then found it right after that. My bf was terrified
