edited April 2011 in Pregnant
I'm 16 weeks I will be 17 weeks tomorrow I went to my ob appointment today and was offered the test to check for down syndrome I declined she told me it was optional but she told me from my last ultrasound that everything looked fine I just don't feel like worrying over nothing! I go Saturday to get a 3d ultrasound to see what I'm having and I can't wait!!

  • Good choices I have decided the same. No matter what the outcome the child is mine and I will take care of it to the best of the ability God gave me. Congrats and God Bless.
  • I didn't take it either. If its Gods will then their isn't anything a test can do.
  • They didnt give me an option for the blood test. Couldnt hurt to have it done. I wouldnt do an amnio though if that were the case
  • And u are so right Mrs_Rodney that is the same way I feel thank you and Congrats to u too we are truly BLESSED:-))
  • I agree@eaparker @karla I just did not want to add another thing to worry about to my list
  • The only reason I took the test is because if something was wrong then I would want tu do what ever I could tu keep my baby happy... and prepare my self ... for care after birth so it wouldn't be a total shocker as far as doctors and equipment or w.e.... I wudnt Ger the amniocentesis either @karla_with_a_k I think they just experiment there lol.... but yea its a good thng tht all of this is optional
  • Im thinking about declining that test too. There wont be anything the drs cab do if baby was positive regardless and i refuse to abort...
  • I declined also its not 100% sure and regardless im keeping my bby girl, u made a good choice
  • Is it an amnio test? I have 3 other kids and if I had it done I didn't know it if its just a reg blood draw.
  • I didn't have it done with my last 3. This one I *might.* Just b/c my husband and I are older this time. (I'm 32 & dh is 37...last time I was in 23,25, &27.) Not to terminate the pregnancy, just to be prepared.
  • I did mine cuz I wanted to prepare. I would never abort my baby. Im currently in a cat scan scare. Had one on my pelvis while I was like 2 or weeks and didnt know. I had u/s like 3 times cuz I was worried thanks to google. Dr said everything looked fine and to not worry but that blood test freaked me out it came.back.negative too much stress
  • I wish I wouldn't have now. Mine came back positive. I was told I have a 1/148 chance of Downs. It doesn't make a difference but its just so much more to worry about now.
  • I decided against it wen she said sumthn about a needle n my uterus

My little brother is downs and I was a special ed teacher. It takes a big heart and open & prepared mind to take care of them, they graduate, but they always need a home, mommy and love. My mom is a blessed angel and saint. It isn't easy, but it can be done. I can't think of a life without him, so the issue isn't aborting, its like some of you ladies already said, its about being prepared. I get my bloodwork and ultrasound tomorrow, hopefully all goes well and if not, my mom was a good enough teacher to allow me to be just as patient and kind. :)
  • I took it with my first 4. ....3 of them came back positive, but none had down syndrome. The measurements they do at ultrasound... of femur length and neck thickness are way more accurate .the test just gave me more to worry about.
