depressed by weight gain

edited April 2011 in Pregnant
Feeling like Shit I'm 17 weeks and have put on like 9kg. I'm usually quite small and suffered abit from eating disorders , to have so much more weight then I'm used to carrying is really getting me down . It's not that I don't luv my baby or the fact I'm pregnant I feel fat and its getting me down , I feel unattractive and from what I'm reading I'm putting on weight to quickly apparently because I was under weight when I become pregnant . Everyone says this is ment to b the most enjoyable time of your life why do I feel this way I hate it ...

  • I've been depressed also. I gained 60 lbs AFTER I had my first and worked very hard to lose it all. I finally got it all off and kept it off for a year. Now I've gained 25 lbs at 28 weeks and I'm just so scared of going back to where I was.

  • Your not fat! Your growing a beautiful baby in your belly. I was on the big side to begin with I have gained uhm about 40 to 45 ibs I still have 5 weeks to go. Since your smaller its normal to gain more weight. Keep your head up :)
  • I got pregnant when I weighed 190 lbs and now I am 36 weeks pregnant and weigh 251! It is depressing! But my doctor did tell me that at least 15 lbs is from water retention and swelling alone! And when the baby is born I will drop 20 almost instantly from baby and placenta and amniotic fluid. So I am keeping my head up and just trying to appreciate the belly! I plan on breast feeding and that will help with weight loss after. I am on bed rest now so the drastic change in activity level after birth will also help. Ya gotta just remember your body isn't yours right now, its the baby's!

  • At 27 weeksim 77.1 kg which is 51ish pound weight gain for me depending on exact weight pre pregnancy I also am a anorexia survivor and was considered under weight my drs told me its necessary to gain extra and that if I keep any of the weight its probably wont be more than 5 pounds after delivery and breast feeding and the weird thing is ive been eatin almost 95 % healthy only eat junk food maybe twice a week
  • I'm weighing in at 65kg and I was 55kg when I was weighed at my 6 week doc appointment , and I'm the same I only eat healthy and have the odd take away once a week if that. I think the fact I've given up smoking until bubs comes hasn't helped . Hope it all works out for us anyway and your right most of it should b pretty easy to loose once its all over. Just a matter of blocking out those nasty voices in our heads that keep telling us we are fat. I've had a real positive happy day today and my man has been the best company and made me feel special . Hope yours is doing the same xxx
  • @rissalee7 im also 27 weeks and im not sure if you know this or not yet but im going to tell you anyways . lol . now is when we start gaining the most weight once you hit about 28 weeks we'll start to gain about 2 or 3 pounds a week and then once you about 36 oh lord you gain weight like crazy . @septemberbuddy how did you quit smoking ? ive tried and tried and i cant do it to save my life . ive cut down alot but i cant seem to stop completely .
  • to be honest its the hardest thing I've ever done and not only did I smoke cigarettes but I've been a full time weed smoker for the last 6 years . I made a promises to my self many moons ago that if I ever got pregnant I would give everything up and I'm not the sort of girl to go bak on my word . My baby means more than my pleasure to me and I want them to have the best start at life . Trust me I've had my moments where I just want to give in , but I've come so far now it would b stupid to. I found occupying my self really helped ie: goin for a walk, goin and lookin at baby stuff .. what makes it worst is that my partner still smokes so I have it in my face 24/7 but I just think of my beautiful bub and how strong they are growing with me doing this for them. Good luck and remember we are only pregnant for 9 months , that's nothing compared the rest of your life you can smoke xxx xx
  • 1 kg equals approximately 2.2 lbs. I looked this up. So I helps any for a better understanding.
  • Don't worry...it happens, and you can loose it all in a few months. That's what I tell myself. I feel so fat! But its nomaly to gain 30-35lbs or 15-17kg during pregnancy. My friend put on 70lbs with her first. Dont feel too bad. Oh and I'm so happy for you :-) I quit smoking too. I know how hard it is, but I've been good for 26 weeks. Good luck :-) you can do it.
  • Thanks hun ! Go us!! Hope your traveling well, I can't wait to be past the half way mark :) do you know what your having yet ?
