how to bring on labour

edited February 2011 in Pregnant
I'm 37 weeks and had an ultrasound and this baby is bigger than average. He is already 8 pounds 11 ounces. I am a really small individual and he has like run out of room. Any ideas how to jump start labour.

  • Sex & walking up stairs
  • Yeah, you might not feel too much up for it but sex, sex and more sex. And lots of walking.

Have you talked with your OB about your situation? Maybe they will induce you...
  • My ob just went on holidays...great hey
  • Raspberry leaf tea, massage the back of your ankle above your heel, drink a teaspoon of castor oil
  • Typically home remedies don't work unless your body is actually ready for labor. Also, at 37 weeks the babie's lungs may not be fully developed. Its normal for babies to "run out of room" at the end. The uterus wasn't designed for them to stretch out at the end. Castor oil is dangerous to use because it can cause the baby to become stressed and have its first bowl movement in the womb (this is dangerous because the baby swallows amniotic fluid and if he swallows the fecal matter it could create problems). Talk to the on-call dr about the possibility of an induction. Good luck.

Lots of walking. I did the castor oil thing and it put me in labor 6hrs after drinking it
  • im a lil worried about hte raspberry leaf tea thing as i have been on a brisk raspberry ice tea kick should i be worried
  • Thanks for the advice. Actually his lungs are fine. Doctors thought he was coming at 33 weeks so I was given 3 shots of steroids to mature his lungs plus my cervix has been opening for a couple weeks now, so he can come anytime. Id just like it to be sooner than later.
  • Are the steroids good idea? I'm sure they're sage of doctor shooting em up but just curious never heard of before
  • Yes they are a good idea. They help the babies lungs mature incase they come early
  • Thats interesting (: good to kno
