Aflac during maternity leave??? *UPDATE~helpful info for TTC'ers*

edited April 2011 in Pregnant
My cousin was telling me that they will pay you while you're on maternity leave. Does anyone know anything about this or have experience with it?

  • Yes they will if u have it.... but u have to have aflac for 10 months before it will pay for maternity leave.
  • I have short term disability thru another company and they pay me for maternity leave as long as you've had it over a year when u deliver.
  • Oh ok. Well its to late for me but the TTC'ers may be able to benefit.
  • wat if you work pays u? can they still pay u too? lol I feel greedy
  • They'll pay (either) 65% or 70% of your monthly income. You get a weekly check.
  • I have short term disability but doesn't it only give u 6 weeks?

An EXTRA 65-70% sounds pretty worth it to me?

So suppose you get it in your second month of pregnancy and your still on maternity leave at 10mos (or decide to extend your maternity leave). Will it still kick in?

And do men qaulify? I know a lot of employers offer men maternity leave as well.
  • @dra765 If your job pays you 50%, aflac will pick up the extra 15-20 %.
@jcbowker it depends what you sign up for. I know you can definitely get 3months
  • Oh ok. So its not extra on top of your full salary during maternity leave.
  • @mommys1stbundle not sure about that. I think it's possible after 10 months. Also not sure about men. I just learned all this stuff about aflac, it's definitely worth looking into!
  • @alilboulding wat if ur job pays u ur reg check? no extra $$?
  • Right - not on top of. If u have hospital or personal sickness coverage, you will get paid for dr visits n giving birth etc
  • @dra765 iiii don't think so, no. Not from disability at least
  • No. I have aflac short term disability. If you give birth before your 10 month waiting period they will not pay unless you deliver before because of a complication. Trust me I've done my research. I took out my policy Dec 9th. We concieved in Jan and due Sept 28th. For us to collect STD I would have to deliver Oct 9th ten months after starting. My agent lied to me and I called aflac customer service directly.
  • @iamomYea I definitely heard that the 10 months starts 30 days after enroll or something like that. Cuz they want to "make sure" ur not even close to being prego when u enroll. The timing is tricky. I'd be so pist if I was given wrong info like that.. might as well cancel or ask for money back!
  • @iamom That suck! To pay for extra insurance and think that you're coverd only to find that there's a loop hole or that you've been lied to.
  • I have aflec u have to have the maternity coverage before u get pregnant I didn't know so I get squat
  • Sadly I'm high risk so we decided not to cancel because it could have complication. Trust me I've spent hours reading my policy and researching the legality and options. Even did a cost benefit analysis.
