silly question about pregnancy weeks?

Okay, so I have to ask cause I thought I had it down but im still a little confused. So according to my dr I am 16wks 6 days today, this app says 'time passed' 16wks 6d and 'pregnancy wk' is 17 weeks. I have other pregnancy apps on my phone that say the same thing... only calling it 'fetus age' 16wk 6days or 'pregnancy age'... but they all say 'pregnancy week' 17. And tomorrow it will say fetus age 17wk 0days and pregnancy week 18. SO my question is, is it more common for people to give people their pregnancy week when asked how far along, or fetus age??? AND my pregnancy week by week book says when my fetus age is 16 weeks then im pregnancy week 18! That's two whole weeks. So confused. And a girl from church who is prego also, says her due date is july 29th and she's always saying she's 2 weeks ahead of me lol. My due date is july 16th... and I remember when I was 7 weeks she told me she was 9 weeks and so on. So how could she be two weeks ahead of me but im due before her?? Is she going by a different method of pregnancy weeks or what? I wish there was just one simple way, cause it just kind of confuses me and it seems everyone calculates how far along they are differently... so I guess what im asking is what is the best, most accurate and common way??

    The pregnancy week is just the week you are completing. I am 9w5d but i am in week 10. Meaning monday i will be 10 weeks complete. Hope this helps.

    I'm 9 weeks and 4 days so technically in my tenth week. But I say I'm 9 weeks.

    Me to i just go by what the app say the first one and the girl at ur church is retarted and can't count.

    @firsttimemama ok... that's kinda what im interested in is what's most common for people to say. But also the 'your pegnancy week by week' book really confuses me, jumping a whole two weeks.

    @hupe23 LOL... that's what I think everytime I hear her tell people how far along she is! But I dont want to be rude so I don't correct her, I just keep my mouth shut:)

    I'm not familiar with that book. But most apps I have say in your tenth week this week. So I just go by my completed weeks. Hope this helps. I also use the app what to expect and I love that one. It gives daily tips.

    i literaly tell ppl that im x weeks and xdays. like right now when someone asks i tell them 18 weeks and 6 days

    @firsttimemama I use that app too, I really like it. I have like 4 apps on my phone. They all give different info and tips so its nice. This is the only one I use the Forum on though:) that's what I like about this one.

    @Rissalee7 that seems most dead on to me I guess... hmm this is interesting. I seem to find myself saying both and trying to explain it and people just look at me weird like they're confused and I feel like a big goober. Some people say months! Just tell me in months lol.

    @mscheyla it seems like a dumb question especially for being almost halfway through my pregnancy lol but it just seems so many people calculate it differently. I really hope someone has or can explain the pregnancy week by week book because I really don't understand their theory ...

    Im due july 17th n im 16 weeks ending week 17 weeks our due days are one day apart do u kno what u having?

    @elyandanthony Wow we are close! Yes we found out at 14 weeks! We had an ultrasound done then, but did not expect to find out the sex until our Feb 22. But they told us no doubt we were having a boy! We were both pretty shocked to find out so early but it was exciting :) We still go in for our ultrasound the 22nd so I'm looking forward to that and to getting another confirmation :) How about you? Do you already know? Or when do you find out?

    March 2nd we find out even tho my moms says its a gurl by the way my belly is formed lol I just hope I have a healthy baby.

    I'm in my 19thweek and it says my baby is 18weeks and a day... I just tell people 19weeks to make it easier telling the months is confusing for me lol... I'm due July 7th and can't wait, hopefully ill find out the sex next week I'm hoping for a boy and feel like its a girl...

    @ashley... the reason your week by week says thwey baby is actually 2 weeks younger is because conception usually happens about 2 weeks after your LMP... so my LMP was Oct 24th but I didn't actually conceive until about Nov 8th... they just go off of the first day of your last period for the dating of your pregnancy because its pretty much the only date that they are fairly certain of...the baby just technically doesn't exist yet. hope this helps! I def wish they would simplify it!!!

    @Neek & @C_Fleming that's what I've been going by too... and fleming, I thought it was a girl but it turned out to be a boy :) so you never know...
    @elyandanthony is your belly higher? I heard you carry boys low and girls higher? I was the same way... its my first so all I really wanted was a healthy baby! Although everyone including myself thought it was going to be a girl but he surprised us all!:) good luck! Let me know when you find out! If you remember lol.. I know how forgetfull we preggers are!
    @vette_devil thank you! So I understand that... so do you think some people go by that when telling people how far along they are? Like the girl at my church for example ... saying she's two weeks further then me?

    @elyandanthony very fun! My baby bumo is definitly lower as of now. I love seeing how other mommies close to my due date are doing and what they're going through... it seems like its the one and only time that 'comparing' yourself to other females is okay lol and fun! Have you felt any movement yet??? I am sooo anxious to feel something and I've heard around now is the time you can start feeling the baby. A couple times I think I have but its not constant enough to be sure! I just assume its something else like gas bubbles :( im ready to feel the baby! Lol

    I thought I felt it too but my doc said its too soon its just gas lol I wonder if it hurts when dey kick? its my first child so I dont know what to expect lol

    @elyandanthony I don't think it does... I bet it feels neat:) until they get real big... then I bet it can get pretty uncomfortable!
