Pregnant over 35

edited February 2011 in September 2011
This is my 2nd child, I am 36 years old and my son will be 5 in March. I'm a little worried about the risk of pregnancy after 35. Any thoughts?

  • I will be 36 by the time I deliver #3...i have been through a lot of testing because of my "advanced maternal age" lol
  • So what sort of testing have u had to do? When r you due?
  • I am due july 13th...i have a a ton of blood taken, more than usual ultrasounds. I did opt for the cvs test only because I have a two and a half year old with down sydrome (spontaneous not genetic)...they have been ten times more thorough this time than with my last two and have been more concerned about my age than the ds...
    When are you due?
  • I will be 37 by time I deliver #4. I talked to my doc who said I had less than a 1% chance in having a baby with a genetic disorder. In fact he said the risk of losing the baby after having a cvs or amnio is higher. I opted out of the tests and will just hope for a healthy baby either way
  • I will be 39 when i give birth to baby #4. My youngest is 7. I am nervous about having amnio or cvs test. I have miscarried in the past and afraid of having a procedure that may put me at risk. I just found out that I am expecting and EDD is mid October.
  • What about the blood tests and sanograms shouldn't they show abnormalities if they are present? I am freaked out about having all these tests? What is a cvs test?
  • My mom was 36 years old when she had me. That was almost 25 years ago. My mom was told that I could be born with brain damage or end up with a learning disability. But I turned out fine. I think that all the new technology puts more fear in mothers. I mean its great that we can find out any problems with a baby but I just feel like sometimes things are taken too far. If you think positive than everything will be fine
  • Im relying on the blood test and ultrasounds since I have opted out of the cvs and amnio. The cvs is where they take a sample of your placenta and test it. I think they have to go through your cervix to do this. Really I think if your overall health and lifestyle is healthy the. Your baby should be fine. Try not to stress over it.
  • They do genetic blood tests that can also detect birth defect markers. Same with the ultrasounds. The cvs test is sn early test they do at about 13weeks where they actually get tissue from the placenta and do a whole chromosomal workup...thats also how I found out so early that we are having a boy.

Don't worry too much...i may be different bci already won the lottery :)...the positive is you wil know that your baby is perfect and healthy. You will get to see him/her alot
  • Well i am hoping and praying for the best. I am due sept 25 :)
  • I'm 38, this is my 5th baby, yes is scary with the age and all but i know in my heart that he will be fine, i do plan on having an amnio done I just hope that everything will turn out fine....
    ..
  • Ill be 39 a week before bby arrives.. Its been a tough pregnacy.. bby was rated A+! Im ready to get thus over with due june 28
