listeria symptoms

edited April 2011 in Health
Does anyone know? I've read a lot of posts saying they eat cold cuts & such without heating them up first. I had some sausage heated up & not. Had a sub also. I'm paranoid though. I'm calling dr tomorrow am. Had a fever that went away yesterday nite but its back. Been taking Tylenol. It helps some. Be careful with the subs preglys!!

  • How I look at it..... look at yourself, ur mother ate subs, maybe not microwaved. And speaking for myself im healthy! But its good to call the doctor to see what's wrong with u. Just make sure meat doesn't have a weird residue, smell, and color. If I do eat a sub I have the meat heated up for ten seconds.
  • Yea I usually do heat the meat but hub bought a sub for me & yum it was good!! I just wonder y I still got this dam headache & fever. It went away but its back. Ugh.

You just get really sick, flu like but really bad. Its very unlikely but a good thing to heat your meat or use seasoning that kills bacteria. My doc said don't believe the hype, enjoy and heat if it eases my mind, but definitely cook things meant to be like hot dogs.
  • You get symptoms 2-30 days after. Fever, headache, body aches, chills, backache, nausea, vomiting. Basically mild flu like symptoms. If it spreads to ur nervous system it cause stiff neck, disorientation, convulsions. Its pretty rare to get it though.
  • I got a stiff neck though that could be they way I've been sleeping. I do get chills when temps high. & sweats when its not. Headache when temps high too. Hardly been wanting to eat. & usually I can pack it in. No nausea or vomiting or diarrhea. I just don't like not knowing what's happening to me! Usually I'm a great diagnoser (made the word up I know) of my symptoms. I tell drs wats wrong with me & they test & I'm right. Idk wat this is. I do have a kidney stent in. Maybe that's it. @luvbump @Little1Cashew I appreciate ur inputs. Maybe its not listeria but I think ima tell dr bout it anyway. It can't hurt.
