Husband's Confession

edited February 2011 in Pregnancy and fathers
My husband has a daughter that he hasn't seen or spoken to in years. He had her when he was young and the mother cheated on him and ran off without notice, taking the child with her. I am almost 12 weeks pregnant with our first child and am due on his birthday. Ever since we found out that we were expecting, my husband was ecstatic, or so it seemed. Tonight, we were laying in bed and something didn't seem right. I asked him what was wrong and he said that he is frustrated. Apparently every night after I fall asleep, he falls to pieces. He told me that every time I talk about this child he gets upset because he thinks about his daughter. It's so strange to me because for over a month now our friends and family always point out that he seems happier than me about this pregnancy. I am hurt and I don't even know if I should be. I guess I just didn't expect to hear any of this from him. I know that his daughter's absence is hard on him, but I feel like I'm torturing him by being happy about our own baby. I don't know how to feel and what to attribute to the hormones.

  • There's not much u can do but try to understand him that's not something u just can forget when u are a good person ; u just have to know and remember its not ur fault AT ALL that the mother of his daugther took his lil girl away from him. u shold be happy for your baby & he should be proud of you by knowing that u would never do something like that to him ((:k
  • My husband had a daughter when he was young. When she was 9 months old, her mom asked him to sign a paper, telling him it was so when she got remarried, their child could take the new husbands last name. After he signed, she told him he signed away all his parental rights and fled with the baby. After 19 years, he finally just got back in contact with her over Facebook. He had two more children with another woman and she also fled with his kids. He was reluctant at first to have a baby with me because all the women he's had kids with have taken off with them. It didn't take him long to realize that we truly love each other and we are now two months pregnant with my first baby. Its a really sad thing and you have every right to feel emotional, but be happy for the baby you're having together!
