  • This is my 4th child so I've been tested for both many of times and no traits exist... thank God
  • Wow my doc hasn't tested me she just told me she's worried which in return made me worried when did you get tested @YNVTish
  • I don't carry the sickle cell trait but I guess I'll mention lupus at my appt tomorrow
  • So your doc hasn't mentioned it to you yet??? @Tootie08
  • I don't carry sickle cell trait either but I will ask too about the lupus all my gentic testing came back normal I just have that nasty glucose test next time I ago and get my shot
  • I actually have the sickle cell trait so my babys father had to be tested for the trait as well
  • My first child has a trait of sickle cell. With this pregnancy I was extremely concerned that this baby could have sickle cell. So I was tested I dont have sickle cell or a trait but my fiancee has a trait so it is possible this baby will have a trait as well.
  • This is my 2nd child and my doctor hasn't mentioned it either time. Maybe I should ask her about it on my next visit.
  • I plan on asking about lupus at my next visit.
  • So is baby at risk only if both parents are carriers of the trait or can they b if only 1 parent is?
  • What do they do if your child has the trait??? @Mommie_of_2
  • My husband nor I have the trait.......i got tested at my first doctors appt.
  • @mybabe I've already done all of my testing and all of my results came back good but I don't remember her saying anything about lupus. No one in my family has lupus but I'm still going to ask about it.
  • Ok I see yu already answered my ? :) @Mommie_of_2
  • From what my doctor says if its one your child can be at risk... Its uncertain who genetic traits your child will inherit from... @kfigueroa
  • Will they tell you if your positive or do you have to ask?
  • @kfigueroa the child is ok if they just carry the trait it is just when they grow up and have kids if they meet someone else who has the trait and produce then the baby will automatically have sickle cell my friend died at 22 of sickle cell because both parents had the trait and were not prior tested
  • I have the sickle cell trait but never did the genetics counsel
  • @jodimama they will tell u if u were tested it is not automatic
  • Oh well I will ask at my next one too thankx ladies :)
  • @ebbry u might wanna have ur bd tested cuz if he has it to then ur baby will actually have the disease and not just the trait
  • @ Mybabe nothing was done any different I didnt even find out til after my daughter was born. Any time she goes to the hospital or changes doctors I must inform them of the trait. But other than when she decides to have children she must be careful of who she has kids with because if they have a trait or have sickle cell her child will more than, likely have sickle cell.
  • @jodimama I'm not certain because I see not every doctor talks about certain health issues and I'm pretty concerned about that I haven't been tested for anything but my second appt is Friday so hopefully I will be teseted instead of her telling me she is worried...
  • @preggointx where you tested for just sickle cell???
  • @mybabe I'm due in like 3 weeks and she hasn't told me anything yet so maybe that's a good thing
  • @jodimama lucky your bout to pop LOL... good luck and blessings with your newborn!!!
  • @mybabe I was first tested for it in college so I knew I didn't have it but i did full genetic testing blood work for myself including HIV screenings and other stds and the full work up diabetes cholestrol and more....they took over ten viles of blood from me...all came out good except my blood type rh- but I already knew that too
  • Thanks girl:)
  • Ok question if I'm mixed with white and black do I carry the sickle cell trait
  • I'm not sure its possible you should ask your doctor!!! @fat_bob
