wisdom teeth removel while pregnant

edited May 2011 in Health
Has anyone ever had to have their wisdom teeth taken out while they were pregnant? Or know if it is a possibility to get them out while you're pregnant? I've had an appointment for months to get mine removed then found out I was pregnant. They make me in so much pain I can barely sleep or eat.. I dont want to put the baby at risk but I dont want to get an infection either,, where they've already started to come in..

  • When I got mine taken out they constantly asked me prior if I was pregnant due to the drugs they were giving me. And they also put me under so idk if its safe. I would say no but ask your dr
  • I was set to go get my teeth pulled had already paid and everything when I found out I was preg. My doc said I wld have to wait bc of the drugs bug I kn there are some Dentist who will do it I. The sec trimester but im going to wait to scared of what will happen
  • I had a tooth extracted recently at 12 weeks and my doc said the pain,i was in prior to extraction was more stressful on the baby tgan having the tooth removed. Go to an oral surgeon they are well equipped for any situation. Good luck I know the pain,i was in and its worse than, labor pains.
  • My Dr said its fine after the first trimester. I just had 1 wisdom tooth pulled this week. They only numbed it...didn't hurt at all.

  • I wouldnt do it, they had to put me to sleep to do it and according to the dr. They don't just come out easy, they actually had to break my 4 wisdom teeth and then take out the pieces! And the pain after sucks so bad!! I was on vicodin and it was still horrible, i can't imagine doing that while pg!
  • My sister just had hers out, they just cant put you to sleep but they can numb the spot... and they did give her a pain med i dont remember what one but i wanna say vicodin..... I am thinking of getting mine out before baby is here because I dont wanna be in that much pain after I have the baby, or on pain meds. But I am going to ask my dr first...

  • I wouldn't do it either. I didn't want to wait 5 months for anaesthesia (stupid place didn't have any there, I'd have to go to the university to get knocked out, then be driven to the Dr; stupid!). I went ahead and got 3 pulled while I was awake and it was the worst thing ever. I was so freaked out that my jaw muscles kept clenching. I had a Valium before I went in but as soon as they started, my anxiety went through the roof. I had stitches in all 3 holes and the doctor told me I should have been put to sleep for the operation.
The next day I was in a lot of pain and I threw up everything I ate and drank. My holes were still bleeding which they shouldn't have. I had to have my mom tale me to the ER and they gave me fluids and morphine since I was dehydrated and still in pain. That morphine made me feel 100x better! :D

Point being, I'd wait until after the baby arrives. It's a pretty major procedure and not all experiences were as bad as mine, but it sucks.
