BMs feeling worse than labor!

edited February 2011 in Pregnant
Ok so I've been SUPER constipated. Prolly tmi but I used to be really regular. Now I'm lucky if I have a BM (bowel movement) every few days :( and when it is time to go I get the most horrible cramps. Is anyone else having troubles going poo to the point where they dread when the time comes to hit the toilet? I just want to be "regular" again lol. And I've been eating tons of fiber with no relief. Oh the joys of the unexpected during pregnancy!

  • Drink lots of water & eat more fruits. Dragonfruit helps alot for bowel movement u can try tt. If nt u will have to inform ur doc. Good luck.
  • Lol! No such thing as TMI when pregnant, especially on a pregnancy forum ;) just saw your text about 5mins ago. Wasn't sure if you were awake or not so I didn't want to text back in case you were asleep since you said you weren't feeling well. I hope you're feeling better. Shoot, I'm in the same boat as you, I never was regular (i.e. every day) but it was like every 3dys. Before tonight it had been a week! Cramps, uncomfortable, feeling 'full', just wishing it would come out&relieve pressure. Like I don't feel fat enough, poo bloat just adds to it. I think preggo bellies are amazing, but not on me. I suppose we're our own worst critic?? Have you tried Senokot (sp)? Its a vegetable based laxative, so its safe during pregnancy, your body doesn't become dependant on it (think eating about 6 helpings of salad what it does to make you 'go') but in a pil. Works well without the cramps that a regular laxative would cause. Or if you like olives or nuts, apple juice, grape juice or grapes those all work too. I wish I could eat salads, but with SLE, blood thinners, ulcers/acid reflux its a bug no-no. :(
  • Ya it was like 6 days for me which is not my norm. Then when I did go yesterday I went 3 times that day! I just wanted the pressure off my lower belly and at the end of the day I lost almost 2lbs...I'm guessing all in poo and pee lol. I haven't taken anything yet to help me go. I'm on enough meds as it is :( I love salads too but I'm on blood thinners have gerd/acid reflux and a kidney stone history. So I can't eat too many green leafy veggies cuz my kidneys don't process it and it turns into stones. I feel a bit better after going...still bloated and super gassy but not terribly uncomfortable. And ya DelRae this cold is giving me 1 last kick in the butt. Should be almost over tho its been a week now.
  • I have GERD, 4 ulcers (2 of them have bled off&on), I'm on Aciphex...works wonders. I have literally tried every acid reflux medication out there, none worked& most I had bad reactions to. I swear this stuff is a miracle. I miss having cranberry juice, green tea, salads, plus I can't have acidic, fatty, spicy, most meat...so frustrating! They tried to tell me to limit cheese; I told them I was giving up everything else someone would be paying BIG time if I couldn't have cheese! Oh, no milk, ice cream, bacon either. So its rice milk, frozen yogurt& turkey bacon--which it isn't the same :( I know what you mean, get sick&it lasts like 2wks then you just get sick again! I feel like I'm never not sick, just different levels of sick. Boooo!! Have major heartburn right now, I was bad&indulged in some chili for dinner. BIG mistake! I'm trying to slap some Lidoderms on right now, not so easy to manuver to get them in the correct spots. Suppose I will nudge the man to lend a hand to his poor preggo wife :) have you tried Flector patches? They're similar to Lidoderm, I wear Flector during the day for 12hrs, then swap them for Lidoderm at night for 12hrs. I've been on Zofran for the last 18mos from all the meds, medical issues, now I'm still on it from being so sick with this baby. Luckily I have the ODT ones, so they dissolve in your mouth which is a total help when you're so nauseated you don't want to swallow anything.
  • I don't know if It's just a available in the UK but you could try fibogel. I found it really helped after I'd had my first baby.
  • oh yeah I had some terrible movements worse than labour n wa like contractions every half hour incredibly painful I took a small among of infant coloxyl drops it helped, I actuallyfound out about my first pregnancy cause of constipation lol
  • Ya I didn't get constipation until about 9w and I'm 11w now ill be 12w on Sat :) MrsDelRae I swear we r twins I have Aciphex too but haven't taken it since I found out I was preggers and I have Lidoderm patches too but wasn't sire if I could use them in pregnancy. If I could they would be a lifesaver! I also had to go on Zofran cuz I couldn't keep anything down including my vitamins. After being on that tho is when the constipation started. Ty all for ur input and remedies for this :)
  • I woke up in the middle of the night to poo, it took me 10 minutes! ...for basically nothing, the tiniest amount. I've never got up in the middle of the night to poo, ridiculous!
  • Haha me too katlilly! My 1st BM was almost nothing just a few peas but tons of wind...I think that worked some more down tho. I know this is ridiculous but I get scared to push when going for fear of pooing the baby out. My hubby says I'm irrational and I know it would be hard to do that. But if I push to hard it gets all crampy in my uterus so I don't do it anymore lol
  • Agreed! Its uncanny how much we have in common. I got put on Aciphex right (talking about 4dys) before I found out I was pregnant with my now 17mo old. My doctors sister is actually an OB/GYN, so he called her right then in front of me&asked her. She said its actually one of the few safe&approved acid reflux meds out there. When I was in the hospital they didn't have it, so they gave me the sister drug Protonix. It didn't work at all, so when I finally woke up they gave me the option to special order it, along with a special order tube feed (I had a feeding tube surgically implanted into my tummy for 3mos, if you have a nasal one too long you get infections) but I would have to pay 80% out of pocket. Its like $265/mo, not to mention the insane hospital mark up, so I declined. Once I finally got to my in patient physical rehab they allowed my hubby to bring it in, took 3mos to fully get into my system. Talk about hellish! I had no core strength at all so once they removed the 'poop tube' I had to use muscles in order to poo...easier said than done. It was insane! Right about now I would love to have a catheter the extreme amounts I pee, which is anyone knew me beforehand I am utterly&completely grossed out by anything 'medical'. I hate taking medicine, so that's why I said the grapes, juice, olives, nuts& even Senokot. Side note, I was flossing the other night, but since then my bottom front teeth have felt like there's a lot of pressure behind/underneath them. Its annoying&hurts, which is causing a headache. *sighs* one thing after another, eh? Infant laxative drops? Are those the chocolate flavored ones?
  • I get scared to push too hard too. Lol when I went into labor with my first I woke from a nap thinking I really had to poo bad!! Guess what? It wasn't poo that wanted out!! So now I'm super nervous!!
  • Ya alwAys 1 thing after another. Here's another ? Off topic since this is my 1st baby. When u lost ur mucous plug and ur water broke where were u when it happened? My best friends had 2 kids and with both she felt the need to pee and when she Sat on the toilet and relaxed POP her water broke both times. I'm scared of it happening in public lol. It's months away but I fear that more than labor and delivery!
  • With my first&second it broke at the hospital when I was 9cm. With my third I had a homebirth, it broke about an hour before I gave birth, with my fourth it was an emergency c-section 6wks early so it didn't break. I had super long labors though...first was 37hrs, second was from 7wks early til birth (had to keep getting shots of magnesium to stop it), but actual active labor was 26hrs, third was 52hrs. Praying this one takes it nicer on me ;)
  • My water actually broke the second I changed into my johnny and sat on the hospital bed! I didn't see the mucous plug at all, so not sure about that.
  • Omg! I feel horrible for u to go thru that long of any labor much less more than once. I'm gonna start a thread about it cuz I'm super curious now lol.
  • Lol! It usually isn't like the movies though, at least it wasn't for me. For a few days before I went into labor, I felt different. Crampy, sore, irritable, restless, nesting. Your body kind of lets you know.
