PUPPPS

edited May 2011 in Pregnant
Im pretty sure that's what I have right now. I have a hive like rash that started in my stretch marks and is spreading all over. I go to doc next week so im going to bring it up then, but anyone know of ANYTHING that will keep me from wanting to unzip myself from my skin? I have some grandpas pine tar soap....it seems to give me 4 or 5 hours of relief but then I have to shower again. Also, does it just keep spreading or will it stop....its on my stomach, lower back, love handles, thighs, legs, arms, and my butt :(

  • Oh my... Ive never heard of this
  • @Karla_with_a_K its awful. I started noticing it a few weeks ago. they call it the pregnancy plague. And apparently it sticks around till you give birth and it may linger after. I literally threw a temper tantrum the other day crying hysterically stomping around my house that's how bad it itched
  • I wonder if.calomine lotion would help
  • @Karla_with_a_K I've tried it. And caladryl, cortizone, cortizone cooling gel, aveeno lotion, stretch mark lotion, oils....nothing provides relief long enough to bother, except for that soap. But its still spreading like crazy.
  • Search pupps in the discussions..there's a few that pop up
  • What about benadryl?
  • I had it with my first and my Doctor gave me steroids you take for a week. They may make it go away or just give you temporary relief. And the steroids are good for the babies lung development. I ended up getting induced at 38 weeks bc i was so uncomfortable
  • I just browsed the discussions and nothing really specific except saying its hell lol. Benadryl is my next try.

@cosenswife I heard some give you steroids. Im just worried cause my doc tends to ignore my questions and whatnot. Im miserable now....idk how long im going to be able to handle it (im 33 weeks)
  • Oh...sorry..i hope you find some solution ..
  • I have had PUPPS with each of my pregnancies with the exception of one. Each time get it in a different spot. First was my hips, second was my knees, third I didn't get it, fourth was in the creases of my arms & this time in between my shoulder blades. I use Caladryl lotion, hydrocortisone cream, Dove or Caress soap (I find the ones with moisturizer helps not make skin too dry helps), I also have started using Nivea creme lotion which is really thick. I take children's liquid Benadryl (generic works just as well although Unisom/Tylenol PM are the same ingredient BTW) since the liquid gets into my system faster. We have always used fragrance & dye free laundry detergent since we all have eczema as well as we use Downy fabric softener. When we didn't use it (thought maybe it was making the PUPPS worse) I actually got much worse. I hope some of this helps you find some relief. I literally wake my husband up to scratch for me because its right where I can't reach. I want to rip my skin off! My bra strap rubs on it too, it is so annoying!
  • Mostly mothers pregnant with boys get it... are you having a boy.
  • I would wake up and use one of my extra hair brushes to scratch. I had it all over my belly, legs, and butt. I got it at 34 weeks. I would also sit in those aveeno oatmeal baths they helped while i was in the bath but that was about it. aloe worked sometimes..i would put it on really thick and my shirt would stick to my belly and it wouldn't itch. when it would start to itch again i would wash off the aloe and apply some more.
  • @Beatrice1436 thanks....me too :(

@MrsDelRae I've tried all the creams and lotions. Most provide max an hour relief before im clawing at myself again. Im definitely going to look into benadryl. If anything atleast ill sleep some!! The grandpas pine tar soap works pretty well. Just makes me itch while I wash with it...then after a few minutes im itch free for a few hours. Just smells funny. Lol mine wont let me scratch he pins my hands down till the urge passes. Thanks for the tips!!

@YNVTish nope im actually having a girl. I read that though....which made me nervous...I have way too much pink and purple going on right now for she to become a he!!!

@cosenswife those aveeno baths are so nice, at least while you're in them. If I could soak all day I would. Oh scratching with a hairbrush sounds so nice
8-> I read something about aloe too...shoot might as well try it. I pretty much keep to a sports bra and basketball shorts so nothing is touching the itchy spots.
  • i put cornflour on mine today helped with the itch alot
  • I Had it with my first. There really isn't much that will make it stay away for a long period of time (the itch). I used sarna lotion. the smell of the lotion stinks but I got much needed relief lol . Also used benadryl like the other ladies have mentioned. I totally feel for you girl!!!!

  • @bummy87 I heard baking soda paste helps too.....
@mommy_three85 where can I find that lotion?? I noticed nothing provides more than a few hours relief. :/ I feel for anyone who got this early on in pregnancy.
@dncrcass its so awful. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Id rather have poison ivy
  • @mandiixmayham ... how many weeks are you
  • OMG that sounds miserable! I have never heard of this before. I am so sorry! Good luck!
  • @YNVTish ill be 33 weeks tomorrow.

    @baileygoose I hadn't either. Its so awful
  • I had this with my first pregnancy, it was miserable and no, nothing helped. Didn't have to worry about it with pregnancy #2, but I'm convinced that I'll have it again with this pregnancy and not looking forward to it. I'm about 12 weeks pregnant, but developed a hive-looking rash when I was 4-5 weeks. It looked very familiar and actually was what prompted me to take a pregnancy test! I pray to God I don't get it again...the first time tooks months (3-4 months) post partum before it went away, but it was pretty severe. I hope it doesn't take that long for you!
  • @slane OMG I hope you don't have it again especially this early. Oh my. I hope it doesn't take that long....I already drive my husband batty I can't imagine being a new mom and still have this rash while trying to be nice to him. Just wont happen. I feel for anyone who has this......
  • @Mandiixmayhem any drug store will probably sell it. Look in the section with the calamine lotions and poison ivy sprays and lotions. My walgreens sells it. Or if you have a kroger or maybe even a walmart.
