  • Cut out sugars for 3 days prior. No eatibg drinks smoking or even gum after 12am the night before.
  • No one gave me any type of diet to follow before I went back for my 3 hour. When I did go back for my 3 hour testing that's when I found out I had gestational diabetes.
  • They didn't give me a diet just told me to go back and make sure I fast for 12 hours
  • I googled some diet guidelines and one said to add carbohydrates into my normal diet and to stop eating around 9 the night before. I think i might cut back sugars 3 days before like @luvbump said.
  • @myressa2011 i basically went by the rules of diabetes..not all of them though. I just ate whole grain.. Didnt have alot of carbs and tried to avoid sugar and high fructose corn syrup.
  • I read when your diabetic not to eat alot of carbs..
  • Really? Well idk but im going to look more into it and go from there. @luvbump did you pass the 2nd time?

I just got off the phone with my midwife, I failed my 1 hr too :( she said nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before the 3 hr test. I really hope I don't have GD.
  • I thought the same thing and we cant eat until after the test im going to dieeeee lol (%)
  • bleh i am so not excited for that test :-|
  • hope you pass the 3 hr one though ! :)
  • @ kimmy819 the hr test wasnt that bad the drink tastes like old orange pop. I hope i pass too thanks:)
  • i hope so cause i dont do too well eating/drinking things that taste like crap lol :p bleh
  • @ kimmy819 Lol i dont either and they timed it they said i had to drink it with in 5 min of the first sip so i chugged it lol
  • How far along were you ladies when you took the test? I failed my one hour, and im already 35 weeks, can't take the 3 hour until next week.
  • @4senough im 26 and at my doc office they said i cant schedule my next appt until the test is done and they have the results. It might be differnt at your office but you're almost done lol
  • I didn't change anything except for midnight the day of the test then I couldn't eat or drink anything til they were done with everything.
  • Lab didn't say a diet to.follow. Just the fast for 12 hrs. I passed :) btw, take magazines and cell phone with you, it gets so boring!
  • My doc said I can eat normal, just to make sure to go back within an hour
  • I didn't do any diet just ate normal then I fasted for 12 hours and got my results just now and passed my 3 hour!
  • For those that passed and didnt diet how many points were you over the first time? I was about 50 over :o
  • They didn't tell me how many points I was over just that I was a little bit over
  • When I failed my 1hr my last pregnancy they made me take a 5hr test.I had to have my blood taken every hr so it was 4xs.I couldn't eat or drink anything past midnight.they let me take sips of water by the time I got out it was 1:00.before I take my 1hr though they told me to not eat or drink anything sugary after midnight and eat a high protein breakfast.
  • My dr orders for a 2hr test... Im here now just finished drinking that orange drink, n now waiting.......................
  • The thing is if you you follow a low carb no sugar diet before your 3 hour test they might now be able to find out of you have gustational diabetes. So I would say follow your normal diet whatever that is. You can eat less sugar but if you have gustational diabetes its better to know. I just found out I have it and I just started testing today. It really isn't that bad and I would rather know and be monitered. But that's me. Good luck and if you end up.having it I promise its not to bad!
  • I am 17 weeks prego and already have been diagnosed with GD last week. They said they tested me early because I was at an increased risk. They did the fasting glucose on me and told me they were going to do the blood test the night before my appt, so I didn't have time to watch what I ate before it. I went and had my blood drawn before the appt. and then went right to my appt. and the Dr. said he already had the results back and I didn't have it. Then the nurse called me the next day and said I did have it. I told her what the Dr. said and she called me back and said the "dr. said he is sorry, he thought you did the test where you drank the orange liquid". So, now I am on a strict diet and checking my blood sugar three times a day and my ketones every other day. So far so good, I really have my doubts if I have it or not, but I will keep doing what they say for the good of my baby.
