midwife stripped my membranes without telling me

tuesday i when to my appointment and she said she's going to "examine" me so she checked to see if i was dilating and said one centimeter. then she dug further and the pain was unbearable then she said she's trying to feel the head then gave me a pad. then i asked her today if everytime i get checked is it going to hurt like that then she said no its because i stripped your membranes. wth i thought they was supposed to ask you or something

    She should have explained what she was going to do before she did it. I would tell her to let you know before she does anything else.

    @jmask, when a doctor strips your membranes, they are essentially using their fingers to seperate your amniotic sac from the wall of your uterus. Its not 100%, but its generally used to try and induce labor, especially if it looks like youre going to go past 42 weeks but dont want to go with a chemical method such as synthetic oxytocin. Im in my 40th week right now, and the doctor gave me the option to try it because I an so uncomfortable. Its a procedure Im ok with, because provided that your body does what its supposed to do (and I havent had any major problems with that), if the baby isnt ready to come out yet, the sac will just re-adhere to the wall.

    @prettygirl, idk if you want to take it this far, but thats a malpractice suit waiting to happen. She definitely needs your consent for any medical procedure.

    @jmask, Im having a boy. Due date is in a week, so we're going to strip my membranes on Monday and see if it takes. :)

    Congrats! I am having a boy too :) I am due at the end of july. I want him to come now. Not because I am sick of being pregnant, but because I want to meet my little man....like now haha

    I am really sick of being pregnant, I feel like there is no end. I feel huge and swollen and horrible all the time now...luckily I found out recently that swimming (or even just sitting in the pool) helps a TON.

    The excitement about meeting him comes and goes, but I dream about breastfeeding all the time. I kind of feel like thats my body telling me that I can do this. :)

    She should not have stripped you without asking first. Id be pissed, that's for sure.

    Yes, she should've asked you first. I had mines stripped with my first born and he asked me if that's what I wanted.

    i heard of a lot of doctors doing it without permission but i never tgought it would happen to me! it was PAINFULL! i hope she didnt do all that for nothing, but it made me lose my mucus plug the next day...and its still coming out eeewwww.
