husbands clueless about pregnancy?

My husband and I are both first time parents. He is an only child, and I have three siblings. I grew up around lots of babies and little kids. He as never been around a pregnant women, so idk if it is just his lack of experience. He is extremely happy and excited to have his first baby girl, but sometimes I just wonder. I'm 25 weeks pregnant...which he couldn't even tell you. He doesn't understand the weeks concept, and I'll randomly ask him, how many weeks am I today? And he won't know. It also took him a while to understand that this little girl in my belly causes me to have symptoms, ex, headaches, back pain, tiredness, nausea, swelling, etc. At first he just thought our daughter was just growing inside me, and there were no affects on me. But now he understands that the pregnancy is causing all of it. Is anyones husband/BD like this or were like this?

  • this is a mans brain when it comes to pregnancy °
  • Im sure if someone ask how many months or wks i am...my hunny wont..know you know what ..im gonna ask him today!
  • Don't take offense to it. My dh & I are preggo w/ #4 & he' STILL clueless! He finally told people @ his office that I was 9 wks preggo...except that I'm 19wks!! He doesn't do well w/ cravings or mood swings either. All he cares about at this point is that everyone is healthy and how to pay for college tuitions!

What can I say...men are still just boys playing grown ups!
  • I have 13 days left and my husband still can't tell me how many weeks i am! He just knows it could be anytime now. It took him til i was almost 30 weeks to remember the due date. I think its all first time dads.

  • Mine is okay with most things, but I doubt he knows how many weeks I am. He just gets impatient sometimes when I don't feel well because I had a very easy first pregnancy & this one has been pretty rough. I think he thought things would be exactly the same.
The clueless dad I know is my sister's fiancé; he has two grown boys & told my sister he'd have his vasectomy reversed so they could have kids if she really wanted to, but at her age (she's only 32, lol, he's 42) her "bones would bend" & her nice body would never be the same & he would be sad to see it go! What an a$$!!! Lol... I told her I would have told him to shove it because my husband will love me no matter how my body changes when I have our children... its called "love".
  • This is my husbands third and my second and he still doesn't kbow anything!! He doesnt even know my due date. He tells everyone sometime this year!! Im like well I would hope so since im 5 1/2 months pregnant!!! Lol.
  • I have two boys this is my 4th pregnancy but my husband who is 40, this is his first. He is awesome no he doesn't understand it all but he ask questions and knows I am 16 and half weeks. He is very understanding of me being sick, craving things and not being comfortable but he doesn't like the fact that the thought of sex to me is not appealing I feel bad but I don't want it. @cait_septembermommy I think all men are different I am sorry that it took him awhile to come around but atleast he did.
  • I'm so glad my husband isn't the only one! lol He just knows the due date, and that's about it. I guess it is just a guy thing.
  • Yes my hubby is the same way, just doesnt get it, its hard.for them to understand they aren't going through all the day to day changes we are, so its.much easier to forget or not pay as much attention to each week...after our childbirth class he seems more understanding and excited but again still blanks when I ask what week and how big does he think the baby is now etc, but i still tell him and he is amazed at how something do big is in me! I try to read the book in front of him at night and tell important things that the baby is developing ect. so he has.some clue Of what's happening wether he wants to or not! Lol
  • Maybe u should get him a book. I got my bf one as soon as I found our and its really good it explains stuff by month. Its called the expectant father. That should help alot
  • My hubby tells everyone that I have all these cravings and he always has to go to the store to get me food. Please....He has done that twice and I'm 29 weeks.

  • My hubby is clueless too, and he's not even young, I married an older man. I'm 21 wks 5 days and all he knows is that I'm starting to look pregnant and that I still throw up sometimes.

Lately he's shown more concern about my lifting heavy things or whenever I look uncomfortable but he did NOT understand my activity restrictions when I had placenta previa--he thought I was being dramatic when I refused to walk around the grocery store with him for an hour while he went down EVERY aisle.

It's funny that he didn't get it when I had bad morning sickness and activity restrictions, but now that everything is great he's protective because I guess now he can "see" the bulging tummy.
  • My husband thinks its all just me and not because of baby.. i guess he thinks differently because i never had the pg symptoms but the mood changes...
  • I'm getting my husband the pregnancy for fathers book from the For Dummies series. Think that might help... I sure hope so. Ugh!
  • My hubby knew everything strangely lol. He raised his baby nephew and was there throughout his sisters pregnancy. I didnt even know certain things lol
  • My boyfriend is the exact same! He wasn't an only child, but he is the baby..this is both of our first child. He's happy that he's getting his boy..but he doesn't know anyyyything about pregnancies and babies. I have had to tell him every single thing. He even asked if he should take off time at work when the baby is born lol..he's never felt another baby kick and he thinks everything will hurt him. He gets frustrated with mood swings and gets mad..and then sometimes uses it against me in an argument now that I've educated him somewhat. I know he has no clue what's in store for him at the hospital. I bought a book for him to read..but he won't lol maybe I need to buy a dvd haha
  • My baby daddy dont know much, but like an obedient hubby he tries not to get in the way! Lol I think its cute cuz he dont know how to take care of newborns, he was all planing on filling baby's crib with lots of blankets so baby is comfortable lmao, those kind of things make me smile! He tries so hard but he dont know... :p
