What are some good tips for first time moms planning on breastfeeding such as good foods bad foods schedules how long they eat etc

  • Don't eat any foods that make you gassy as they will likely upset baby's tummy also. Snack often! As far as schedules go, your baby will dictate that. If your baby cries and is dry, let them eat. It will take a few weeks to really lock down a feeding schedule. Babies will typically eat 15-30 minutes per side, but again that will depend on how much milk your making and how "efficient" your baby is. Congrats on planning to give your baby the best start possible! Good luck!

**I feel like I should tell you this, because I've always felt that women aren't educated enough about how hard bfing is...its going to be difficult. Its gonna hurt. Your gonna be stressed a little worrying if your making enough milk, is baby latched on right, etc....but stick.with.it. come back here for support if you need it, heck id give u my phone # if u need it....I just hate seeing women give up so easily because they aren't taught how things really go. It will be challenging but above all that, the health benefits to your baby and the incredible bond you'll develop far outweigh the hard stuff! And it gets easier with time and practice!
  • @carryingnumbertwo I am petrified to the point I will almost start crying because I want to be successful with it but nobody in my family has ever breastfed and always have negative things to say about it. Im not looking for it to be easy but also not impossible.
  • Always have something to drink next to you when you are breastfeeding.
  • I agree with @carryingnumbertwo . It's gonna be tough, it's gonna hurt at first, and you're going to be so tired. BUT it's so worth it if you can just hang in there for that first 1-2 weeks. I BFed my son for three months and I only stopped because I was going to start working again and I wasn't pumping enough milk. I'm definitely BFing again!
  • @bwhite55019 don't be scared! There are so many more positives than negatives, and quite frankly, an opinion from someone who has never breastfed is moot. Its an experience you need to go through to understand, really. Don't stress about it, you'll only make it harder for yourself. Just relax, and take comfort in the fact that both your body and your baby come hardwired to do this. It is absolutely a natural function, and the more you can relax, the easier it will be. If for some reason or another you aren't able to do it, like your just not making milk or something don't.freak.out. just the fact that you are making the decision to try is incredible, and seriously, the odds of you having a real medical reason that prevents it are very very slim! I wish you the best of luck with it!! You'll do great mama!
