@bri2186 (dropping and ducking backwards a la The Matrix!)
  • My daughter had a flat head and had to have a helmet. It can happen from laying on there back or it can happen because they are prone to it & there skull isn't formed all the way. She had lots of tummy time and was held a lot. The Dr told us it wasn't anything we did. I felt guilty but she said there was nothing I could of done different.

  • @mom2beof2 How long do they have to wear the helmet?

  • My daughter had to wear two different ones because her head grew so they had to fit her for another one. It was a total of about 6 months. The more they wear it daily the shorter they will have to wear it. Meaning because I had her wear almost all day she only had to have it for 6 months the Dr told me some have to have them for over a year. In some cases it isn't only the flat head but also if there head is too big or it isn't growing the way it should. It all depends. Hope I helped :) I'm sure everything will work out & your baby will have a beautiful shaped head. God bless
  • Just make sure when baby is sleeping to put him on his back to help prevent sids
  • Very true. Tummy time a lot if you can stand baby mad and crying. My bros old gfs baby boy had to wear this very painful helmet that reshaped his head. Every time he heard the velcro he would scream bloody murder.

  • Molding the babys head into shape often helps a lot rather then constantly switching there position.

  • Thanks for all the responses ladies! I will do what I can to prevent having a flat headed little boy :)
  • I'm a pediatric home health nurse. I took care of a disabled little girl (she passed away last july 13). The back of her head was completely flat. When she was a baby, she was unable to roll around, so they gave her mom a helmet for her to wear to prevent her head from malformation (since the skull was still hardening). The mom said baby would sweat so much and seemed very uncomfortable in helmet, so mom quit putting it on her. By the time she was 3, the back and left side of her head was completely flat. Almost like she was missing the back of her skull. So please, if your pediatrician reccomends the use of a helmet, by all means, use it.
  • Im sure the babys head will go back to normal

Yes it is true. My sons head is flat. I used to swaddle him till he was 8 months old and so he always slept on his back. My son is now 18 months old and still has a flat head.
  • My mom said my sons head looks like its getting flat but he is seriously spoiled, hes always being held. And he.gets a bunch of tummy time :/

  • @bri2186 it will be 3 years this august. I go to sites like www.curlynikki.com and www.themoptopmaven.com for styles and hair product info. My hair is the longest and healthiest its ever been. I luv it. After I educated myself on what truly is in relaxers I immediately stopped using them.
  • i've seen it on the news..your baby can develop a flat head if laid on back too much..they say during the day give the baby some tummy time while you can watch them. if the baby's head is too flat it will have to wear a helmet to shape it back..
