Wellll.....i have military insurance so my care is similar to yours except I have a dr instead on a midwife.
I too only get a 12w and 20w u/s and I had to pay out of pocket for my 3d at a private place. Bc of my insurance I pay absolutely zero out of pocket for my basic care.
Working towards over 10 lbs of baby and I still have 3ish weeks left. Lol big babies on my pelvis head down = uncomfy pain! Somedays I literally can't walk or even get out of bed. Lol but it will all be worth it soon.
@newmommy_navywife how much are your 3d scans?? were i live they are £200 which is so expensive.
@mrsstanley_x2 aww bless you.. hope your taking it easy! you have done really well to get as far as you have. i thought most twin babys were born really early.
I'm trying. Lol my amazing (though sometimes ridiculous) hubby helps tremendously. I'm actually very fortunate. Twins have a habit of coming very early in some cases, and oftentimes spend time in NICU. Mine are big, all systems functioning well (lungs need another week or so of course), and are pretty much in the clear!
For my 21st going cornwall but my mate not long since moved torquay so calling of there for a night or two yeah 3d scan's expensive found one in Leeds 150 for 45 mins, a dvd of 20 mins of baby moving a disc of upto 100 coloured pics then a few 2d black and white pics
Just so some know state insurance at least not in Kansas is given to not every one. In Kansas they only consider the mother father and unborn in their people per household. So even though with this baby we are a family of five I was turned down for medical card because they considered our income to much for a family of 3. My private health insurance doesn't cover maternity. I currently go to a health dept for prenatal care which sucks, I never see the same doc. They don't do sonos there. How ever they are only $600 compared to $4000 at my obgyns office. Then I still have to pay the hospital out of pocket after baby comes. Which I estimate will probably be close to $8000 or more if I need a c section or want drugs.
Out of pocket costs depends on your insurance. I had Kaiser through my work so I only paid $5 for each dr visit and nothing for delivery. Kaiser also does an ultrasound at EACH of your visits. So what you pay depends on how good your insurance is. I've changed insurance since then but will likely pay less than $33 for my entire maternity care through military insurance.
It is sooo expensive yeah we defo take it for granted we get certificates for free prescription medicine's and free dentist appointments that's whilst pregnant and until baby a year old
@Englishrose I do have good insurance except that they don't cover pregnancy. When we bought our policy we were done having kids, so we didn't need to pay for a service we weren't going to use. Apparently God had other plans for us and we are lucky to be getting our third little girl! Although she is going to cost us an arm and two legs
I think a lot of people take their luck of health insurance for granted. I did till now. The added stress was horrible at the beginning of the pregnancy but now that we are more then half way and i have found a cheaper docs office i feel much better. However i have to drive an hour just to get my check ups. and an extra half hour more to deliver at their hospital which will give me a bit more of a break in cost then the one here in my own town.
I live in new zealand and ours is pretty much the same as the uk. We still get laughing gas:) had it with my first and plan on having it with my second. I agree we take it for granted too. One thing our government have done right
@surprisenumberthree I was in a similar boat as you with my first. My hubby's job didn't offer insurance and we just missed the mark for aid. I also had a ton of complications and had to move to Dallas with my parents to find a dr who could help me. The bill was outrageous. I was lucky to have parents who could us out. I tell them that they pretty much own my son since they paid for him! Lol
@EnglishRose at my current dr office they only give you an us at 20wks unless you are high risk, like me, then you get one at 12wks as well. Also, there's only one dr in his practice and you only see his nurse practitioners during your appointments. You only see the dr at delivery. That is unless you are high risk, like me, and then you see the dr but you always wait a long time because he sees patients inbetween deliveries.
Since I'm young and poor, I get government assistance and that includes free health care. Everything will be paid for including prenatal care, my stay in the hospital, the baby's after care and shots, an ambulance ride if I need it, and even medicine if I need it during and after pregnancy.
I don't think its fair that women who bust their butts working to support themselves get no help at all if they make "too much." It's just ridiculous. In America, there's a big debate on whether we should have healthcare like Britain's but according to some politicians, that would make us Nazis >_> Basically the only people who are against it are rich people who can already afford healthcare.
I want laughing gas! I'm on state given insurance and I go to one doc he will do my c section he gives 2 us typically. I got more when sent to genetic stuff cause I carry cystic fibrosis and heart defects run in my family but those are done at the hospital. My c csection is scheduled I ended in emergency c sections with my first 2 so I want this one to go smooth no v vbac .... how does the UK handle csection? Pain wise is epidural a must or are there other options? I hate epidurals.....
There are several routes as far as insurance; private (paid out of pocket), Medicaid (state insurance that's free for qualified people), and self-pay (making payments directly to hospital and doctor). We have midwives too in America, although there are more doctors. Actually, I only know of one midwife where I live and I don't think she's that busy. My doctor does an ultrasound at every appointment until the 20 week appointment, then one in the third trimester to check position and size. I don't know if he does that for everyone, I've been high risk with both pregnancies.
