Found out what we are having! In such a fun way too!

edited May 2011 in Pregnant
So we had our ultrasound done yesterday (21 wks) and had the U/S tech write what we were having in a card. Then we sealed it up and didn't look at it all day. I wanted to be surprised when we had the baby, but everyone else HAD to know, so I caved. Well, we took it to our friend's house and opened the envelope before we went to dinner and a movie. We had all our kids there (9 of them total) and we all gathered around to open it. I couldn't open it, and hubby didn't want to, so my BFF opened it for me. She didn't even tell me what it was, she just started jumping up and down and said, "I told you, I told you." This whole time she'd been saying it was a girl. I honestly thought I was having a boy. So I was completely surprised. It was SOOO fun! A moment I will never forget. Then I posted a pic of the card on FB for everyone to see. SOOO super fun and exciting. The only downer is that my dad was disappointed that it's a girl, but he is always like that. So whatever!! But everyone else is really excited. Now we get to go shopping for girl things! :) YAY!!

  • That's awesome. Im not finding out, didn't with my first either, its hard but boooo worth it in the end.
@nova its the biggest surprise you will ever receive in your life! Its so worth it!
  • I really wanted to be surprised, but everyone else wanted to know so bad, I couldn't wait anymore. I think making it fun the way we found out helped. But I thinking waiting is the best. I waited to find out with my first, loved it. If you can wait to find out with the first I would. But it is sooo hard to wait these days :)
  • That's too cute! What a great memory! Congrats, Mama! :)
  • @Nova That's a good idea, that way you can find out if you HAVE to know, or keep it a secret :)

  • @vette_devil It really was fun! Thanks! :)
  • My husband doesn't want to find out but I Have mixed feelings about it. I Just told him what you Did and he flipped out saying fine we will find out. That's not even what I was trying to say. I Just thought it was a cute idea! Aghhh!
  • That's so cool! And congrats on your girl!!
  • That's what I was gonna do if my husband couldn't make it to the appointment...I was gonna have the tech write it down and seal it in an envelope and when my hubby got off work open it together...but we didn't have to do that because he made it...
  • @Smgibbs oh no! Hope he doesn't get too upset. Its so funny when hubbies get so sensitive about things. It was lots of fun, but I can understand wanting to wait too. It's so hard, and today I was "talking" to her and still amazed that its a HER :) haha! Maybe finding a cute way to find out will make it ok with him. If not waiting is really awesome too :) when I had my daughter and we didn't find out until she was born, the doc announced that it was a girl....everyone, even our nurse, was in tears. Then hubby held her and told her "welcome home crystina rose". Gosh I still cry about it now when I think about it. Haha! Now I'm thinking we should have waited, haha!
  • @cicelia we had an early ultrasound because the nurse couldn't pick up the heartbeat and my husband was talking about waiting. The nurse told him how much fun it is. So now he has his mind made up but I'm not sure. He is acting so Moody lately, like his hormones are on the rise lol!
  • @Smgibbs I totally understand. My hubby and kids are as moody and hormonal as I am. Especially when it has anything to do with the baby. We've had so many discussions on names and baby stuff. I sometimes feel like hubby is as preggie as I am. Haha! Maybe our hormones change theirs or something. I do think that they get so stressed about having a new life to care and provide for makes them as moody as us moms that caring and providing for them inutero. I know the whole dependency thing overwhelms him, and this is our fourth. :) but we love them, moody daddies and all :)
  • @cicelia This is our 3rd together but my 4th. But it is our last. So I think ill give in and wait but its soooo hard lol I have a 10 year old and our boys are 3 and 2. Everyone on both sides of the family really are bummed That we are not going to find out. I don't want to get neutral colors. If its a girl I want to go all out! If Its a boy I have a ton of stuff already and don't have to worry about what to get. How did you do it with Your first with out giving in?
  • @Smgibbs So we're in the same boat with 3 other kids :) mine are 13 (girl), 12 and 9 (boys). It's our last too. That's why I was going to let it be a surprise, but EVERYONE ELSE had another idea, haha. You will really need girl stuff if its a girl :)! 13 yrs ago it was sooo much easier to find neutral stuff, so it wasn't bad. Plus I never really wanted pink stuff anyway. I am kind of tomgirlish, the only thing I bought that was girlie before we had her was a camo bonnet, and I just had to have it in case she was a girl, :) It was hard for everyone else though. I know how it feels with the family/friends all wanting to know. That's why I completely caved with this baby. Everyday I had people sending me messages asking if I was going to find out. I think my Hubby started a campaign to get me to give in and find Out. Haha! :) I told everyone that I was just going to say that they couldn't tell on the u/s because everyone was making me crazy. But in the end I caved, when Hubby practically begged me to find out I gave it. Haha! So I know how it can be conflicted. But if you guys wait, it will be so worth it. I say buy some girl stuff and keep receipts, snce you have boy stuff :)

You'll have to keep me updated on what you guys decide to do. Now I am excited to find out if you get your girl :) :)
  • @cicelia That's a really good idea about buying stuff and keep the receipts. That's also a really good idea just to tell people they couldn't see on the ultrasound lol! I'm only 12 weeks so I've got a couple months still before the big decision but I will let ya know :-) I'm due Dec 6 when are you due?
  • Awe! Congratulations! :) that was too cute!
  • @Smgibbs I'm due Oct 6. I kind of wish I was only 12 wks...its all going so fast! Well we will have to keep each other up to date on things, since we're both moms of four. Yay! I love people who love big families too :) I will keep fingers crossed that you have a girl, but dont blame you both for waiting. Telling a little white fib wont hurt anyone and save you the trouble of explaining why your not finding out :) so glad we got to talking today :) glad we have so much in common.
  • @HajisBabyLovee
thanks. It was lots of fun. Now all I keep seeing are baby girls everywhere :)
  • Lol I was like that when I found out I was pregnant. ^_^ Pregnant people were everywhere. Lol literally. :) I'm having a boy and I'm due 10/19 hbu? Have you picked out a name?
  • @HajisBabylovee congrats. we are close to each other, I'm due oct 6. Naming her Vivyann Maria :) it does seem like everyone is knocked up. Haha!have you decided on a boys name yet? I really thought I was going to have a boy. We were going to name a boy Rhys Anthony :)
  • That's so cute! What a neat us teck! Not sure if I wanna know or if I want to wait. Been weighing out the pros n cons... husband os even starting to want to wait too. I think the antisipation wound b a blast!
  • that's a really cute way of finding out! my U/S tech didn't even ask me if I wanted to know or not, she just all the sudden said "and there's the boy parts! Kinda messed up, what if I wanted it to be a surprise?
  • @mandac10 we found out but I really would have been excited to wait. I say if you (and everyone around you) can be patient then wait :) Its awesome to be surprised!
  • @lhanafi Wow! I would have been upset. We told her right away we wanted ot writtwn down, and she was good about it. Had us look away while she looked to find out. I think I would have cried if she did that. But a boy!! Yay for you. Boys are so fun! I am happy about a girl but loved having boys, they are easier for me to relate to :) i'm a tomboy though, so my daughters have to be too.
  • @cicelia I originally wanted a girl, but now that I know I'm having a boy I'm way excited. Girls are so dramatic, haha.
