I'm due in just about 4 wks. my bd n I aren't married, he wants the baby 2 hav his last name but I kinda feel left out that way. Wat r ur opinions on hyphenating?!?!
im in about 5 weeks and me and my baby dad / fiance arent married yet either but our daughter is getting his last name . but if you feel left out talk to him about it and tell him how you feel and see what he says about hyphenating . hope it helps . and good luck .
Personally I wouldnt do the hyphen.. My daughters last name is hyphenated and I would love to change it. Its caused all sorts of problems with drs offices.. Insurance companies.. And whatever else her name is on. But really its up to what you feel comfortavle with. Me and her dad werent married and arent together and ive never felt left out because she didnt have my name.. I got her so I really dont think about it.
I'm considering hyphenating my babys name too. Not cause I feel left out, but because I take a lot of pride in who I am and where I came from, including the long line of Zavala's. But my fiance isn't so pleased with that idea haha
Thx 4 every1's input... after doing some reading up on it I think I'm going 2 giv our son his dad's last name. He has been asking me 4 a while what my decision is n I haven't answered. I think wen I send him the acknowledgement of paternity (he's military, wnt b here 4 the birth) ill let him see then that he has his last name... ty all again!!
my last name is anaya & dads hernandez so if I want my last name to be used in school & what not would it be eliana hernandez anaya or eliana anaya hernandez?
we had our son before we were married so our sons name is hyphened. My last name is Alfaro and his father's is Sanchez. So our child's name is Joaquin Sanchez-Alfaro but at his daycare they always use Sanchez for his paperwork. I am now conflicted with our new baby how to do the last name since I am now a Sanchez but I don't want our son to feel different because he has both our names...does anyone have any suggestions?
@Joaquins_mama thats a good question, i didnt even think that far ahead n wat I would do in that situation. Well ur 1st son is being considered a Sanchez already so maybe it wont even be an issue. but if u think he may feel like the oddball then maybe give the new baby both names, u r still the Sanchez family and they can both choose wat to do with their last names later if they choose to keep both or drop 1... which would most likely be urs since u r too a Sanchez now
@joaquins_mama@ladistacks so I have to put mine first? Gaaah im so confused cuz everyone says different things & I want to make sure mine is used. Any ideas who I should ask tht can give me a 100% sure answer
My sons name is hyphenated and my fiancee and I are together and both happy with it. We did it because i'm the last one with my family last name, no males to carry it on. So it was important to us to continue my family name
@ladistacks That is true Thanks! @l_anaya Well if you are trying to be traditional, Latinos put the father's name first. So if you were trying to go that route your babies name would be Eliana Hernandez-Anaya. When you fill anything out for your baby, like when enrolling her in school, use her name like that and you can always tell them you prefer her to use Anaya. When I was growing up my name was Elizabeth Alfaro-Rodriguez, I got tired of putting that cause it was long and I got lazy lol. So I would put Elizabeth Alfaro-R. or Elizabeth A-Rodriguez or Elizabeth A-R and the teachers always knew it was me.
