Yes, I would definitely start to pack the bag now. You want to make sure that you have everything for yourself, and for the baby. Keep in mind that if you're formula feeding, or using normal diapers for baby hospital will provide those, so I would keep your stash at home.
I haven't been in labor yet, and im 9 days away from official due date, however, there are a few things that I was told to watch out for, and if any of these are true, you need to go to labor and delivery to be checked.
1. If you are having contractions that last around 1 minute, for at least an hour, that are 5 minutes apart. Once you start having semi-normal contractions, it may help to write the times down that you are having.
2. If you feel a sudden gush of a lot of water, meaning your bag of waters break, or even a slow leak, which could indicate a tear in the bag of waters.
3. If you experience any abnormal (based on your pregnancy) bleeding, as this could be the start of labor, or could indicate complications.
4. If you feel a decrease in movements, or feel very extreme pain.
I'm guessing that I will probably be induced next week, before I have the chance to go to the hospital naturally. Hope this helps!
Here's a great link for what to pack, although there are many sights that can help. www.navelgazingmidwife.squarespace.com Also agree, the 5-1-1 rule is good to go by, 1 min contraction that comes every 5 min for at least one hour. Although, my contractions were inconsistent in timing they lasted all day. If you're leaking water or bright red blood, or if u feel no movement for more than 1 hour, don't hesitate, go in. If ur not sure, give the hospital or ur doc a call, it never hurts. Good luck and take care.
