  • My wife has had low iron her whole life, and once she got pregnant it got much worse. Flintstones gummy vitamins helped her a lot. Spinach and liver are also a huge source of iron.
  • @joe - sweet thanks i'll try that :)
  • You're welcome
  • i dont know if you have it there but milo is a good souce of iron... and its yummy :)
  • @tinka - hell yeah lol yup i got some at home :-D
  • it doesnt contain a huge ammount, but every little bit helps, i get low iron in pregnancy so milo becomes my best friend because i HATE the pills lol and if you have it with just milk then its also a good source of calcium lol
  • Spinach! I eat alot of spinach salads because I was low too.
  • Red meat. But the key is to have it as rare as possible not to well. Like med, or even medium rare
  • Girl that is no joke I am low in iron and it got worse as pregnant.. and at 12 weeks I had 2 blood transfusions because it got soo low. I am so bad at taking the pills but there is a liquid iron u can take that is better then the pills starts with a F but its great and jus eat read meat and a lot of greens
  • When my iron dropped 3 points in a matter of a couple of weeks in between appointments My midwife put me on a high iron liquid called flourodex. You can find it it health/natural food stores its advertised a lot in pregnancy magazines. I also take these green pills called fero sequels you can find at any drug store, they are ver small and very easy to swallow. My iron has gone back up to levels they are satisfied with in just 3 weeks. Good luck :)
  • @imamommysoon its a chocolate powder that you put in milk. its really designed as a treat but the company has boosted the good stuff in it to sell more lol
  • @tinka1326 kinda like ovaltine? I wonder if they have it in new hampshire..
  • @imamommysoon yeah it i like that... i dont know if its sold anywhere but australia... maybe google it...
  • I also have severe anemia, but I can't have most of the foods that give iron because they also cause Vitamin K which causes blood clots & I'm on blood thinners. But anyway, you can have beef, liver, molasses, dark leafy greens, beans. There's a list I made for @mrs_wainwright if you go to her threads, she had one about anemia, its on there. Hope this helps!
  • @everyone thank you! :-D
  • Some cereals have lots of iron! I think cheerios is one of them. Goodluck :)
  • I was severe aneimic i started the flintstone vitamins I didnt really kno to much about any of it until I was 7 months n went to wic n they sad it can cause u to go into preterm labor or loose lots of blood after well I had my baby at 33weeks wish I woulda done somethin earlier but idk if thats what caused me to but it might have so watch it n take it seriously
  • Floridix, is an herbal iron supplement, is pricey but thats what I take because it has no side effects (doesn't cause constipation) you just drink like 2 tablespoons a day...i always become anemic when I'm pregnant as well..i eat a lot of iron foods but it very hard to now if your getting enough iron that way, good luck
  • Yup floridix and spirulina. Also drink or eat something contaning vitamin c before your meals as it increases absorption of iron. Floridix is pricey about $20 a bottle here in nz. Milo! Who would of thought :)
  • I get something called Spatone here in the UK its sachets of iron rich water, you add it to fresh o.j. and drink it. I use it instead of regular iron pills as you don't get as many side effects (such as constipation). Also eat broccoli, spinach, fortified cereals, red meat. Guiness full of iron too but obv its alcohol so be careful with that one! Maybe a swig now and then!
@MrsDelRae we are banned from eating liver while pregnant in UK! Not that I like it anyway!
