My stomach is leaking!

edited June 2011 in Health
So my C-section incision is leaking for the second time in a week.

The first time it happened was when I got discharged from the hospital...I didnt even know anything had happened, I was just sitting on the floor with my bf and my new son, and when I stood up, I realized that the front of my basketball shorts were completely wet and streaked red. I went into the emergency room like my discharge papers say to, where they said that it looked ok for now, that I needed to wait until morning when I could go see my OB/GYN. When my doctor looked at it, he said that it looked like a pocket of fluid had burst, but the small spot where it had come through (right in the middle of the incision) was sealing itself back up. Voila! Nothing to worry about.

Except that it happened again today, a week later. I was sitting down after a shower to put a fresh pad in my panties when my incision literally SQUIRTED. For a milisecond I actually thought I was peeing, but I couldnt figure out why it was going out in front of me and why I couldnt feel anything. After that initial shock, I followed the stream right back to that same location in the center.

Now, the problem is this: Im staying with my mom, who lives two hours away from my doctor. She called the local doctors office, where the receptionist said shed talk to the nurse and call back. I called my doctors office, where there was no answer and I had to leave a voicemail. I even texted my boyfriends sister, who is an RN in L&D. No response from ANYBODY.

So how many times is a "pocket" allowed to burst before we get worried? Because this is freaking me out.

  • That is not normal. Perhaps antibiotics are needed!? Good luck!
  • Im kind of thinking of demanding antibiotics as well...Im just so frustrated. I feel like I was cut open, then sent home without any bandages or forewarning that this might happen.
  • I don't recall that happening to me. Just some pain. I would definitely go to the er or call doc til I get some answers
  • The same thing happened to me call your doctor its probably an infection
  • Is is red but kinda clearish mine looked like blood mixed with water. Mine poured out whenever I stood up that's def. Not normal. What they will do is prescribe you antibiotics and more pain pills they will remove like 3 staples out of the middle and give you gauze, saline and really long cutips your going to have to have someone stuff the incision from side to side with the gauze soaked in saline. Make sure you take your pain Meds about an hour before hand. Good luck I hope that's not what it is!

I had my pocket leak a few times with my first it's normal...but im surprised tthey didn't give you anything to pack it with so it didn't get fluids back in it...but I didn't have infection or anything....good luck
  • I would keep calling or go in that happened in my incisions from getting my appendix out years ago. I had an infection, so I don't think it is normal.
  • Ok, so I heard back from my SIL and my mom also called her EMT buddy (who also had 2 C sections) and they both said the same thing; bandage it, keep clean. If the incision gets an angry red, starts actually bleeding instead of just a thin yellowish discharge, if the discharge turns green, if I get a fever, a horrible headache, or feel dizzy, to go to the emergency room. Otherwise, its relatively normal. SIL said to call the doctor in the morning, he may suggest doing a stitch or steristrip at my next appt to keep that spot together.
  • Definitely go to the doc I didn't have a fever, dizziness none of that it wasn't even read around it I just started leaking a reddish clearish liquid I hope all goes well keep us updated! Did your water break before you had your c-section? That's what happened with me I didn't dilate so they had to do the cs. They waited to long that's why I got my infection.
  • That never happened to me. I hope everythings ok.
