knee pain!

edited June 2011 in Second Trimester
Im 16weeks today but for the past three weeks my right knee has been killing me! And it happens when im sitting or laying down. Im not even on it or anything. Anyone else having knee problems? I usually feel this pain in the winter time bc the cold locks my joints up and i get an inner pain that doesn't go away. But its not winter time or cold. But it hurts 10x worst now :(

  • It could be the extra weight that your body is carrying, pushing down on your knees...which will contribute to horrifying leg cramps, as well. You may not notice the weight increase, just yet, but your body might, especially if you're not a big person to begin with. If the pain doesn't stop, though, I'd definitely contact the doctor.
  • @monkeysmommy2011 I have always been overweight but its not from that. I had a skate boarding accident years ago, and messed up my knee. Its only the one. And it only happens when im not walking. If it's straight for too long it hurts or if it's bent for too long it hurts. I have to walk around just to make it feel better.
  • Have you tried wearing a knee brace? I have one from Homedics and it worked wonders when my knee was acting up last summer.
  • When you're pregnant, your body retains water in weird places... your corneas, feet, and joints to name a few. I've got so much pain in my joints (especially the ones I've previously injured). Ice rather than heat to reduce inflammation helps, since you can't take any ibuprofen :-(( And stay off it as much as possible. I hope you feel better! Oh, and make sure you're wearing appropriate footwear.
  • @MommaMoon Oh, gosh. I'm sorry, Sweetie. I have hip complications, due to a really bad car accident a couple of years ago. My hip joint was completely crushed and my hip was severely dislocated. I have the absolute worst pain in them, sometimes...and baby definitely doesn't help matters, any. Like *blueberrysmom* said, you may be able to try a knee-brace...if that doesn't help, your doctor may be able to help with further treatment that's safe for your baby. I was sent to a physical therapist in the beginning of my pregnancy to learn how to support my huge belly on my not-so-strong hip. (:
I certainly hope you get some relief, soon!!
