My new buisness adventure... Gender neutral baby clothes (vent) long

edited June 2011 in Second Trimester
Why the hell is it so hard to find cute, affordable gender neutral baby clothes? Im seriously thinking about developing a company that provides this service. Is it too much to ask at there is a little more variety than just ducks, frogs, and a stickly yellow or green color palette. I seriously cant be the only mother-to-be that would like the option of more choices and not have to spend $50 for one outfit. I understand that its my fault for not wanting to know the sex of my little nudger.... But I shouldn't be punished for it either. At the rate im going my child will be in all white until I can go out and get more "gender appropriate" clothing. This is not something I should have to stress about. Im already getting complaints from friends and family about how inconvenient im making this for everyone :( sorry this is so long... I just needed to vent.

  • Aw I guess I am the only mommy to be that has this problem...

  • I kinda understand.....I'm not a fan of the traditional colors. Its so hard to find Gabriel clothes that aren't blue with footballs or trucks.

Lol I found that target is my best option.
  • I never found out with my first nor will I with this one. I feel your pain and if you do start that business let me know! With my first I got mainly boy items, because I figure that way either one could wear them. She was 6 weeks early so by the time we got her home she had a full wardrobe of pink preemie clothes Haha
  • Oh I agree! I'm chosing to not know the gender and it has been difficult. I managed to get some out fits from garage sales but then it has still been hard, I need more and they are pricey and there seems to be no veriaty.
  • @Newmommy_navywife
I swear if someone buys me something with a football or a truck on it I'll take it back.

Ugh, even buying boy clothes that aren't dumb is hard. I looked at Ross and got a set of 5 onesies and dinosaur footie pajamas (SO FREAKING CUTE ZOMG!!!!) and they were about $20 total. I'm planning on making punky baby stuff with white clothes, fabric dye, and fabric spray paint. Idk, I just think it would look weird for a punk rock girl and her punk rock husband to carry around a baby boy in pastel blue with footballs on his clothes.
  • Im gong through the same thing! Its either yellow or green ducks or frogs! Hahs my sister found some cute ones at target and we always go to the baby section hoping for something cute gender nuetral. I didn't think it would be such a small market! Let me know if you find anything!!
  • Lmao at "little nudger!" :X
  • Try ebay! I didn't look for gender nuetral things, but they are bound to have them. And people sell a lot of pieces together at a nice price.
  • And thredUP.com people give away a box at a time, you just pay shipping or something like that.
  • Lol @victoriab! Yah luckily I have the outlets near my house...so I racked up at carters, ralph lauren, and osh kosh. And I bought the rest of his stuff from boutiques and target.

    Thank God!
  • It's the same over here :( i didn't really want to find out but fiancee did and i think my lil lad wanted us to know to cos he was fully on display lol any way fiancee said its a lot easier finding out cos every thing is so genderised (not a real word i don't think lol) and he was true hardly any white stuff either

@NewMommy_NavyWife my aunt went to carters when she was over in Florida was so expensive!
  • @samiuk really? Wow. The one here in Charleston has good prices, ALOT cheaper than the instore prices.
  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • @NewMommy_NavyWife it was like $5 for a bib and 12 for a vest someone said that's pretty normal lol
  • @samiuk lol yah that's a good deal bc depending on the brand they normally run $20+ lol
  • @NewMommy_NavyWife can't believe it we get like a pack of 5 for that price my aunt thought it was cool though cos it said my aunt is the best haha
  • Hahaha omg so true i hated it. I Bought sme stuff, and when i found out the gender (princess) i exchanged EVERYTHNG cause nthng was gud enough...
  • I found out the gender, but IM cheap i like the neutrals so i can use the with all my kids! I hate that its all sports with boys my husband hates sports!!!! Grr!
  • You could always just purchase enough onesies, socks, pajamas, and anything else you think you can't live without and then buy the rest of the clothes after the baby is born?
  • Thank you ladies! It's nice to know I'm not crazy haha! I also went on to Etsy and Artfire.com and found some really cute things... but I still cant justify spending $20 for a simple cotton onsie. Oh well I'll keep my eye open and report back!

@NewMommy_NavyWife whenever my mom and I go shopping she always comments on how the lil boys clothing has gotten so much cuter since she had babies (my brother is 27 yrs old lol). I don't know if you have a Kohls around you or not, but I was really surprised at the nice (not trucks or dinasour) selection they had for our lil guys. I always have been a sucker for a polo and overall outfit lol So stinkin CUTE!

@garagebandfan I have already started with ideas and my Mom is like "I'm in... when do you wanna start" haha! I told her I don't need all that "organic" nonsense... I just wanna make cute affordale clothes. If it ever becomes a reality I'll let you know :-D

@caroline8_p great suggestions Thanks!! I have to wait a little bit on the thredUP.com. This is my first baby so I don't have anything to swap with the other moms on the site, but I'll definately use it in the future!

@ta2edblondie my brother (who is a smart a$$ and was trying to be funny lol) said "you know there is an easy fix for your problem right?!". I told him to suck it and that it was the whole principle of the thing that bothered me. God help me if my child is a hermaphrodite... their nickname with either be ducky for frogger b/c of the clothes they will be wearing haha!

@ace_baber_3 I'm cheap in the sense that I want 4 kids... so this crap has got to last a little bit! LOL :-)

@misskristin the bulk of the outfits will have to wait until after the birth, but I would like a nice stock pile so I dont have to go out right after the baby comes home. My butt is gonna be too tired to deal with shopping lol!
  • Lol I've already raped the racks at kohls!!!! Lol
  • i never really had an issue with the clothes.. i didnt know what i was having till i was 2wks from my due date and only reason i got a scan was they thought my amniotic fluid was low.. i thought i was having a boy the whole time.. i was right.. i still took a girl outfit to the hospital just in case .. lol..
  • @NewMommy_NavyWife HAHA! that's funny! Yeah I had to simmer down when I was there shopping for my friend's baby shower.... the bill was reaching something ridiculous and my mom had to knock some sense into me. But I think it's a disease that only affects women. I'm gonna name it "cuteclothescausemetoloosemymind-itis" hehe!
  • Lol!!!!! Yah I have it bad to the point that any store that my husband and I go in I either already bought the outfit or didn't like it. Lol
